    Locking through

Has anyone ever locked through? Could you feasibly go from Knoxville, down through bama and back up to Kentucky lake onto the mississippi?

    RE: Locking through

I've never done it in my boat but a group of friends lock through from Wheeler lake here in Decatur AL to Knoxville once or twice a summer. Thats through 2 locks each direction.

Looks like you could get from Knoxville to Kentucky lake and onto the mississippi, but who knows. I'd love to know that though.

It's been several years since I took a boat through a lock. It takes a long time. Barge traffic gets priority, and if there is room, they will "squeeze" you in.

Yes you can do it. I've been from Knoxville to Nashville once while helping bring a boat to a customer. From Knoxville you would take the TN River through many locks down to Pickwick Lake. If you look at the corner of AL,TN,& MS you will see where the Tommbigbee Waterway merges with the TN River. From there you can go south all the way down the the Gulf of Mexico. If you keep on the TN River going north up through TN you will come to Land Between the Lakes. This is where the TN River, MS River, and the Cumberland Rivers connect. From there you can either take the Cumberland all the way to Nashville (It goes further but I've never been past Nashville.) or go down the MS River down to the Gulf of Mexico.

Pretty good trip if you have the time and money. You will wait on barge traffic at the locks so they can slow you down sometimes.
