    MB boats

someone mentioned these to me a while back and i had never heard of them before. for those of you who have looked into these or used them as a comparison, what are your take on them.

this boat was the focal point of the conversation, http://www.mbsports.net/model_view.asp?model=f21tomcat.

    RE: MB boats

I have driven a few and rode behind a couple. I have not been behind the tomcat (xstar want to be) But the company as a while builds a quality product. Not cheap but is good quality construction. I would take it over a malibu (if you ever pull one of those aparts they have more rickety brackets and crap holding them together than the game of mouse trap) They are up to the standards as a CC or MC just don't sell as many units I still prefer CC boats becasue of their owners and dealer network.
Wake is nice and solid all around for surfing and boarding.

    just my 2 cents

A plus of MB is the use PCM. Major positive in my book. Still a CC man when its all said and done.

This is from another thread I posted on, and MB boats came up:
"A friend has a 1996 MB 190. The boat wanders a lot when trying to pull a slalom skier, will not turn when trying to do an around the boat maneuver, and is very hard to control with a medium or larger size skier on the boom.

Do not get get an "M" boat. You want a Correct Craft.

My 1997 Ski Nautique has over 2168 hours on it.
Correct Craft has been in business since 1925."

MB boats do use PCM engines. The gelcoat details and work is excellent. They are made in California, and are popular on the West Coast, particularly in Oregon and Washington, thanks to Active Water Sports.

I would not consider them up to the standards of Correct Craft.

          RE: MB boats

i am not considering buying one, i just picked up my first boat, a 1997 sport nautique, in april of this year. i love my boat, it fits me just right. just wanted to broaden my knowlege of different manufacturers which is limited at best. if i were looking at a boat like the link above i would definitely go with a san, those boats just have a little more meat than i prefer at this time.

I met Mike Brendel about 6-7 years ago at a boat show. He was very cool and took the time to point out how his boats were different. He never bashed any others. He was proud that their boats were "semi-custom". It had a lot of polished billet parts like the throttle and dash trim. You may not be a fan of the designs on the boats but the gel coat is considered best in the industry and they never use decals. Mike made the comment that they never will make more than 500 boats per year as it would throw them into a whole new different catagory as a mfgr in regards to regulations, EPA and Calif. He didn't want that grief, only wanted to make what he considered the best boat. He also talked about how long his employees have been with him. He has a very loyal following and I think his customer satisfaction must be good- when have you heard someone talk about their problems with a MB? He is somewhat of a legend- himself and his father. I would have considered them if there was a consistant good dealer.

I rode behind the Tomcat when it first came out when Cobe was taking the boat around to demo with dealers. The boat is masive and puts out a fantastic wake. Not very fast, but is is a great wakeboard machine. The B52 23 makes one of the best stock surf wakes you could ask for, long and curling. Very well made boats in my opinion, just low resale value.

                      RE: MB boats

I too have had a few conversations with Mike. Somewhat legendary family as you may know. I think the boats are very nice. They have a superior ballast system and a very nice gel and graphic finish. PCM is a plus for sure. There were a few features in the boat that I really liked. I'm not in love with the dash set-up though; I think he still needs to work on that a bit. The fact that he makes so few and that they are essentially completely hand crafted makes them a bit pricey. Resale is not as strong, but that may change in the future once there are a few more boat around to establish a reputation.

I too would chose an MB over Malibu. Not sure about MC. I still think MC's are attractive boats; they'll suffer because of their price tags (as we've already seen from their near failure a month ago).

I have owned 3 Nautiques and will not lie, i am a big fan. If I could have any boat the two that would be at the top of the list would be the 230 and the MB Team Widebody. I also should let you know that I do have a sponsorship deal with MB for OnlyInboards.com. that being said, I am on my 3rd MB and I love them. I had a Tomcat last year and it was excellent. A little big for my tastes but the ballast system, interior, wake was very nice. This year I have a Team Widebody which is very similar in wake characteristics and size to the F21. IMHO it is one of the best boats on the market. It is HUGE on the inside and the wakeboarding wake with a 400 sac in the bow is so much fun. The tower is ROCK solid and they are priced very reasonably for what you get standard. The graphics on my newest one are not what I would have picked when I saw it in pics but when it got here I couldn't believe how great it looks. The boat has gotten more compliments in the first week here than any other boat I've had. Anyway, just figured I'd throw my 2 cents in.

That's a good looking boat. I'd like to see some other pictures. I'm a Nautique guy tried and true, but I always enjoy seeing other manufactures who build quality rather than bling to sell their boats.

MB was on my list when I bought my 210, but I just didn't like the local dealer. Plus, I really wanted a CC!!!
