    Naming a Boat?

Is it bad luck to name a none sea-worthy vessel? I have heard this for years, but have nothing to back it up.

To make this post more interesting, if you do name your Nautique, what is the name?

    RE: Naming a Boat?

Had a thread on this but can't find it. A fishing buddy said generally you don't name anything under 26'. I named my first "FAMILY TIME" but haven't felt the urge to name this one.

        RE: Naming a Boat?

I wouldn't name anything that was "trailerable".

I grew up near Corpus Christi and Port Aransas, TX ...."In the old days", the only boats named were big inboards and sailboats....boats with a flat, unobstructed transom.

Now it seams everyone wants to name even their jet ski.

I do know this, ....if you are fishing and radio the Coast Guard by VHF, they will expect your vessel to have a name.

          RE: Naming a Boat?

I believe the naming of boats is usually the larger vessels that get documented as opposed to registered. The documentation would require a boat name. There is nothing against naming a smaller craft if your inclined to, Some may think it geeky but if you can live with that then go for it.

            RE: Naming a Boat?

I havent named my Nautique but we did name the "family" boats growing up. When I was real young we had a good old Larson Tri-Hull that was yellow black and white and was named Sea Tiger (by my sister and me). Since then all the subsequent boats have been named Sea Tiger II, III, etc. The latest for my dad is a 26 foot power catamaran. The name is not on the boat but on the dock.

My wife asked me this question. I said it has a name... correct craft.

                That is a perfect answer.

I am a firm believer that you do not name these boats...but to each their own.

You don't name Ski/wake boats. You name large boats & classic/antique wooden boats.

When I was a boy, family boat was a 20' sea ray. Dad bought the letters for the name, and mom put them in her purse. Few days later someone stole her purse. boat never got named, had it 15 years. 'Nough said about luck and naming small boats.

I do name my cars though. Yellow_Flash_Colorz:

We've named our trucks ... but not applied the letters.

We have three. The Red Truck, the Blue Truck, and the White Truck.
