Sunday will mark the 3rd of my 5 mileposts of getting through winter. Ice houses in the southern 2/3 of Minnesota have to be off the ice by midnight Feb 28th!! The 4th is apparently Airtool's birthday, also. The last is the moving target of the day the ice goes off the lake. This has preceded #4 a couple times, but is rare, and won't be happening this year.the WakeSlayer

Turning back
I've been in Africa for a week looking for business. If you haven't noticed, the Gulf of Mexico has turned south.
Speaking of turning south....today is a great day. Tomorrow will be slightly less great and so the story continues. I can't believe how few trips we've made this year. I'm not giving up. Great plans for the weekend.
Note: first post in a week or more and glad to be back. There are a lot of threads to read. I'll have to resist replying unless necessary.

Counting down for 2010 turning of the sun....

No...false alarm. We are coming up on the break even point but in a way that hurts.
I just chose to bump this post because I knew it would get your attention (if you've been on PN more than a year or so).
Our days are numbered at this point. Here in what I usually call Hot, Texas...it has been a bit "chilly". Irene spun a huge load of north cool dry air our way and highs are now down in the "double digits". Water temp at LoK was 75 last week and the kids are already complaining. The water did feel cold and it was hard to "get warm" with the cool dry breeze. We do see temps rising and we'll be back in the high 90s next week. Morning and evening trips might be over but heat-of-the-day trips should last through October. I'm off for work through the end of the year (unemployed - by choice) so there will be many afternoons for us together over the next two months.
My point is...summer is disappearing. I've read some winterizing threads already so it may be gone for some. If it is not gone, please make every attempt for that "one last trip"...it could be the best of your life. Worst case, maybe, is that it ends with everyone shivering and you pack up and head to IHOP for some pancakes instead (or, in our case, "Snappy's"). If you do leave shivering, ....everyone will fully understand it is over, no regrets, and start thinking about next year's money shot.
In parting, here is something that will get you motivated. We are huge Phineas and Ferb fans at the AirTool house. Below is a link to the "Summer (Where Do We Begin)" video and lyrics pasted below. Enjoy and pay attention to the lyrics. I know it is about summer beginning. But, let's go and end it the way we all love starting it.

Phineas: The days are longer
The nights are shorter
The sun is shining
Ferb: It's noticeably warmer
Phineas: Summer, every single moment is worth it's weight in gold
Summer, it's like the world's best story and it's waiting to be told
It's ice cream cones and cherry soda dripping down your chin
It's summer, man, where do we begin?
Summer is ponds and pools and garden hoses, tryin' to beat the heat
Summer, bicycles and roller skates and even just bare feet
It's also... Surfing tidal waves, creating nanobots
Or locating Frankenstein's brain
Finding a dodo bird, painting a continent
Or driving our sister insane...
Oh, wait. Maybe we're going too fast.
Summer, it's crickets and cicadas and a glass of lemonade
Summer, it's sitting with your brother in the backyard under the shade of a
Big tree
That's what it means to me
The days are longer
Phineas and 2nd Dimension Phineas: The nights are shorter
The sun is shining
2nd Dimension Ferb: It's noticeably warmer
Phineas: Summer, every single moment is worth it's weight in gold
Summer, it's like the world's best story and it's waiting to be told
It's ice cream cones and cherry soda dripping down your chin
It's summer, man, where do we begin?
It's summer, man, where do we begin?
It's summer, man, where do we begin?

2011 bump thanks to the reminder from swc5150 and SkiTower.
I just remembered I bumped this recently in the greatest September ever. I do remember that cold week now.
I hope everyone watched the video I linked to. I got it stuck in my head now and can't get it out.
If you are not a Phineas and Ferb fan - you are evil !!!!

P.S. To answer your question I was down south at for two in a row. Equinox's are very cool. First at Dzibichaltun and then Chitchen Itza, which was much more touristy. I liked Palenque and Yachitlan down by Guatemala better, as it's much more off the beaten path.. Havne't talked to you forever Airtool! I hope the winter was good to you. Phineas and Ferb are great, though. Something I can watch with my kids!Travis Fling
