Ah...my favorite thread. I spent the last equinox (my birthday also) flying from Lima to Houston. I meant to try to balance an egg on end, but I forgot !!

We probably have every P&F episode on the DVR.

Nice. Your DVR must be bigger than mine! I keep running out of room. What was going down in Peru? I've always wanted to go. Argentina, too. I assume you've been hitting the lake already? We're finally just getting the weather to get a little wet up here.

We have an external 2 gig USB drive. They are cheap now. 1/2 the price of the first hard drive I ever bought. I paid $400 for a 320 MEG IDE drive to replace the 80 megger that died. Get one now while the USB 2.0 drives are being discontinued. 2 gigs might be less than 100 bucks.

Lima was okay but you have to know some Spanish if you are not on a "tour." It is more important that you can say it than understand it. I say a lot but can't understand much. My delivery is so good the natives think I'm fluent and come back at me with nothing I understand. Who cares what they say back as long as they give you the biscuit and drink you ordered.

I never left the city but I hear the expeditions and fishing are great. I will say don't go down there in our spring because the sun is overhead and it is very uncomfortable. I played golf one morning and nearly died from the wet heat....and I'm from South Texas !!!! Maybe it was the fact we had no cart. But at least I had a caddy to carry and clean my clubs. Tipped him less than 20 USD.

Go during their "winter" if you want to call it that and it should be awesome. Labor is cheap and food is reasonable. I think my fairly nice hotel was less than 100 USD per night.

The sun "turned" on June 20.

I can't believe it slipped past me/us. The days are getting shorter but next week will be >100 F in the Houston area. That makes the sunset trips even more enjoyable....and warms the water for the inevitable cool fronts in September.

You better get it in gear if you haven't already.

BTW, you can balance an egg on its end any day of the year. It just takes patience.

Amazing, this morning I flew back from Lima again. So, I guess I left Lima on the longest day of the year and landed in Houston on the shortest day of the year. All in one day. As we took off just after midnight, I prayed the plane would leave the runway before the runway started disintegrating with the beginning of the end of the world.

ps - thanks to SkiTower for the thread bump.

Congratulations everybody for surviving to the next Mayan cycle! After watching the History channel yesterday I was nervous because all the evidence was definitely stacked against us!

Now bring on the lake filling rain and warmer days of Spring. I'm actually going to need a jacket today...brr!

If there are no clouds it gets dark here about 11:00 pm and starts to get light again at about 4:00 am.
