    Wenching

I'd like for someone to explain the attraction to me. Saturday night the wife and I were enjoying a meal on the deck of a restaurant and I noticed someone being ferried on a kayak, and he apparently had a wakeboard (it was getting a little dark for details). A few minutes later he came screaming back in riding the board, apparently being pulled by a wench. He did this two more times and then someone else had a run.

Now, I've seen footage of a cable park, and can understand that attraction. This, however, seemed like a lot of effort for a little ride (50 yds?). I seem to remember a few on here mentioning wenches, so I thought I'd seriously ask: Is there something to this? I personally think I'd rather be behind a boat.

i think some people don't have a wakeboard boat or access to one...wenching seems to be a good option to do some riding.

        My friend builds winches.
The two main things I know…
        1. They get in places that boats cannot
        2. Use a lot less gas

And also that they cost only like $1200-2400 compared to that of a boat or jet ski

              Sorry about that...Winching.

cool video. I can see that application but not in 'open' water because it's cheaper than a boat. I'd either get some good friends with a boat real fast or save some money.

Yea in open water it kind of defeats the point of what winching is about.

I'll agree with it being pointless, and I've got an even better story from last year. We were making our way up to the very end off Lake Austin to a friends house, there are about 2 miles that we can't ride the foils in because the weeds get too thick. about half way there we come across an older Vdrive Xstar that is beached and they are setting up a winch to hit a slider that could easily be hit from the boat. I somewhat get it when the local kids use one to ride in the neighborhood channels where you can't go faster than idle speed, but I can't imagine loading that thing in the boat to haul it to some place I can use even easier from the boat.

Yea I enjoy watching shredtowns vids and following their blog.

Loading a winch onto a boat to hit a spot like you mentioned does seem pointless. Like you mentioned the main point of winching (other than saving money) is to hit spots like creeks, rivers, beach, ponds and winch jams. But at the end of the day its all about having fun...
