    voting in november

i'm 25 and have never voted in any election. I have done my research on every state position's candidates and congressman/senators. I have chosen who i am voting for, and I am very excited to vote. I looked at republicans and democrats and any other candidates. Looks like I'll be going republican across the board. A few of these candidates really are eye to eye with me on many issues even though i totally disagree with some of their other positions. I guess you have to go with what is more important to yourself among issues and weigh the consequences. Now will any of them be addressed with ferocity? Hopeful yet doubtful. Is anyone else excited about the nov. elections? If you're not registered you can usually do it online and mail in your form. In no particular order here of some of my view.
    1. I think the entire tax system should be overhauled and rates lowered and spread apart more. I mean to me taxing 250k at 40% federally, capital gains at 20%, states vary but roughly another 6%, sales tax, 55% death tax, etc is just wrong when so many people don't even pay taxes.
    2. Put healthcare back to how it was and go after the health insurance companies and tort reform.
    3. kick out illegals from all countries and secure our borders and use e-verify
    4. cut federal spending in half or more
    5. states rights are important
    6. drug test welfare recipients

I guess that's enough. Sorry, i was watching the news(CNN) and just got really frustrated and to let it out.

Congrats on your decision to vote . I have always said if you don't vote then don't bit-h when you get morons for Representatives.

The answer is to get healthcare out from under the employer and put it out on the free market like auto and home insurance.

The idea of portability has merit. I'm still not sure if premiums should be based on health record. If insurance company's are banking on the averages and swallow up profit from the "healthy", they should not over penalize those dealt a bad hand. (I sound so "left" there but think about it.)

The other part is to stop the "list price" and plan "contract price" @*$& and make the price one and the same.

          Girde,

Amen brother! I am a business owner of a private practice Physical Therapy clinic, and the other thing I would add to the list, is stop taxing the crap out of the small business so that we aren't double and triple taxed on everything, so that we can actually afford to employee more individuals (the "jobs Bill" advocates can put that in their pipe and smoke it!...might even save a couple of million $$ from our intelligent Representatives from sitting on their butts "studying how to create more jobs"...all the while getting paid.)

            How about this:

Have the oil companies put two $$$ readouts and credit card swipes on the gas pumps.

Swipe the "right" side to pay for the gasoline, but before you can pump....
Swipe the "left" side to pay for the separately indicated tax to the state and feds.

That would really &`~#*%! off the average citizen for them to see the donation they make every time they buy gasoline.

After crude oil costs, taxes are the second largest contributor to the price paid at the pump. Together Federal and State excise taxes on fuel account for an average cost of approximately 62 cents per gallon.

            When gasoline w/o tax is 2.00 $/gal => 62 cents tax infers a 31% tax rate.

Everybody knows what needs to be done, the big question is HOW to do it. (Everybody, that is, except that embarrassment in the White House). But yes, you have a good start in at least knowing what needs to be done.

The biggest difference between Republicans and Democrats is this: Republicans believe the government should do as little as possible and you should be able to succeed or fail at your own hand. Democrats believe there is enough money out there for everybody to live the good life free and clear of any actual work, if the wealth is just redistributed. Therefore they don't mind taking your hard earned money and giving it to a third generation welfare recipient driving a Mercedes and wearing a mink coat. Anybody that's worked in a grocery store knows exactly what I'm talking about.

Just read the health care bill contains a 3.8 % tax on ALL home sales starting in 2013 [Just after Obama's reelection]
This is designed to get the older folks downsizing but this applies to all . That's over 15k on a 400k house. How are you liking that hope and change?

I agree, drug test those on welfare.
My mom had nothing to her name, and it took 4 years to get her on medicaid (and I was very persistent and accurate with all I did to try. She worked all her life and only received 700.00/mo in SS.) but you can come here from another country, and get help interpreting the forms and be on full government benefits in 6 months. My mom died not long after getting approved for Medicaid.
Also, in Florida - we have basically had government health care for years, in the form of medicaid. Why not just re-vamp that system??

                    Home 3.8% tax: The facts

Not really true (don't get me wrong, I don't like the Health care bill, but the tax only applies to VERY specific scenarios, see full link):

                    http://www.factcheck.org/2010/04/a-3...-on-your-home/

Q: Does the new health care law impose a 3.8 percent tax on profits from selling your home?
A: No, with very few exceptions. The first $250,000 in PROFIT from the sale of a personal residence won’t be taxed, or the first $500,000 in the case of a married couple. The tax falls on relatively few — those with high incomes from other sources.

I agree that there is much to be done to get the social and economic strengths which were once the definition of the United States back to their former glory. How to do so seems to be the major question. Without getting into policy too much (I am a die-hard republican on fiscal issues and government, and a moderate on social issues), the question remains who are the right people to perform this daunting task. It is unbelievable the amount of back-scratching and partisan politics which are being thrust at us. I truly believe that is the the party system (or at least the two parties we have) which are causing the lack of change and recovery

COPY AND PASTED FROM THE AP ARTICLE...

                        http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100921/...s_obama_s_aunt

FWIW...To me it doesn't matter that she is the President's aunt, but...she is not a U.S. citizen, yet WE (the U.S. taxpayer) pays for all of her living, medical, and housing expenses...

Perfect example of how screwed up the Washington is on so many levels...immigration, welfare, healthcare, etc. AND...she thinks she is ENTITLED to all of this. AND...we are EXPANDING the country's ENTITLEMENT programs. Jeeze...give me a break...

BOSTON – President Barack Obama's aunt, who lived for years illegally in Boston before being granted asylum in May, said the United States has an "obligation" to grant her citizenship.

"If I come as an immigrant, you have the obligation to make me a citizen," Zeituni Onyango told WBZ-TV in an interview that first aired Monday.

Onyango came to the U.S. from Kenya in 2000 and was denied asylum by an immigration judge in 2004. She was granted asylum earlier this year by the same judge who said she could be in danger if she returned to her homeland.

She said she had intended to return to Kenya but fell critically ill and was hospitalized. When she was discharged, she was penniless and lived in a homeless shelter for two years.

She told The Associated Press in an exclusive interview last December that she was paralyzed for more than three months because of an autoimmune disorder called Guillain-Barre syndrome and had to learn to walk again.

"To me, America's dream became America's worst nightmare," she told the TV station in her first interview since being granted asylum.

It was after her illness, she said, that she was assigned public housing.

"I didn't ask for it; they gave it to me," she said.

She said she resented being used to attack her nephew, who has never intervened in her immigration case. "Don't drag my child into it," she said.

She said she feels as if she's been treated as "public enemy No. 1" since her residency status went public.

Onyango, the half sister of Obama's late father, still lives in public housing and collects $700 monthly disability. She doesn't work, but said she volunteers time at the Boys and Girls Club and with the Boston Housing Authority.

It's just so insane to me how representatives act. I know it's not that easy, but if I were president for a year I would take no salary, put troops out of the military all over the border(need jobs and already trained), change taxes, enact a fee on those under 18 or over 18 and unwed who have children, and audit every single member of congress. that's just week 1.

November is right around the corner. At that point, we'll have the opportunity to hopefully start righting so many wrongs that have been made in the last 20 months.
