Mozilla Firefox Browser

How many of you have tried this out? I just downloaded it and like it alot so far. They say it is safer than using Internet Explorer. Just do a google search for Mozilla Firefox. The download is for free and it will import your favorites, history, etc from Internet Explorer. You can use the browser if you have a mac as well.

I've been using it for about a month and a half now, and I really like it. It does make part of this site display differently than IE though.

I've been using for about 1 1/2 also and have relatively few problems. It loads much faster than IE and has far less problems as well.

I was using Mozilla before FireFox came out, they work great and have far less problems than IE.

I have been using it for about 2 months - well not any more. It was IE comparable but it needed tweaks and addons for anything but basic browsing. Active X is limited (that is probably why it is IE safer). It seemed to be slower to initiate downloads (I didn't like the pop-up box or taskbar download completion notifications). Acrobat stuff didn't load as quickly and was very slow when set to check for updates. I gave up on it once my crashed IE was reloaded (ironic huh?). I did like the newsreader/emailer. I think it is worth a try for someone willing to tinker a tad..............

I like most of it. I really, really like the RSS feature. Very handy. The tabs are nice too. I need to learn how to customize the browser a little bit more for my own likes but I haven't had time yet. I am keeping internet explorer as a backup though.

was just reading an article about how you can change the looks quite a bit, since it uses CSS to style itsself, also there are tons of hidden commands if you type in about:config. this browser except for sites that need the active x is a WAY better browser.

when even the government comes out and says people should look for alternatives to IE, that should shed a little light on how unsecure IE really is. most virus and worms out there target microsoft products specifically since they are the most common, and also full of holes.

I have been using Firefox for quite some time and I love it.

Air206 is correct, the Firefox browser works best when you tweak it to fit your needs.

Scots newsletter is a great site for getting help on your pc when you run into some of the nastier side of the web or pc. They provide help on just about anything geeky you can think of. How To Speed Up Firefox (Helpful Vanity)

Here's something for broadband people that will really speed Firefox up:

1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

If you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages MUCH faster now!

are you having other weird issues though? I am not sure what is causing it but since I have installed that browser and thunderbird, I keep getting kicked off of my wireless network and I keep getting a prompt to use my old internet connection from the dial up days. I wonder if it is having conflicts with microsoft because I haven't removed IE from my computer yet. Just weird that it started happening after I installed this browser

Hmmm... I haven't had any issues like that at all. I am also using a wireless connection, and I have IE installed too.

Another add-on that I found today comes in handy for sites like PlanetNautique. The BBCode add-on makes altering your text very easy. You just type your text, highlight it, right-click, and select BBCode and you get a bunch of options to edit your text with BBCode. Pretty cool... It can be found HERE.

I fixed my problems. I had issues with my router. Nothing wrong with FireFox so far!!
