    Chattwake - 2011 Axis A22

Hey guys! I just thought I'd post a few pics of this year's chattwake.com boat. I know I'm not currently a Nautique owner, but I just felt like sharing because I've been an active member of PN for years now. Yes, I know that there are probably a billion things that you guys won't like about the A22, but I'm really really happy with it right now. As some of you guys know, I owned three 230's in a row. I loved the 230's that I had, but it got the the point where I was concerned with buying and selling one every year due to the cost of the 230 being so high. Obviously, I'm in a unique situation, but it is what it is.

    The stereo install was not a whole lot of fun, but I'm glad it's done. I went with 6 wetsounds xs650's, a XXX 12 sub, a WS420 eq, 2 Pro 485's, 2 Syn4's and 1 Syn1. I'm using two D3100 series AGM batteries from www.4xspower.com.

I ended up deciding to make my own LED speaker rings and cupholder rings for this boat. It was not particularly easy, and they don't look perfect (like the rings you can buy on-line) but the only cost me about $10 per ring when all was said and done. I thought they turned out pretty good!

The z5 was a bit of a challenge because I had to relocate the rear mounting struts because the 485's were in the way. I swapped out all clear LED's on the trailer for the colored lights (thanks Owen at Boatmate).

The plug n play install was super easy. I ended up using the big 1100 lb surf sacs in the rear instead of the normal plug n play bags.

I did all of the work myself, and I'm pretty stoked with the results. I know it's no Nautique, but I'm happy for now!

The led's were pretty simple. I bought a 6 31/32 hole saw (ordered it online) and a 5 1/2 hole saw and an arbor. I bought sheets of 1/4 acrylic from low's. I used the hole saws on a drill press to cut out the rings for the speakers. I had to double the rings because I couldn't find 1/2'' acrylic locally. Once I had the rings cut, I used a sanding wheel to take off the rough parts and frost the rings. I then glued some led strips that I bought off of ebay (the 48cm strips work perfect for speakers) to the inside of the rings after a test fit with the speakers. Lastly, I drilled the screw holes to mount the speakers and rings in the boat.

With regard to the cupholders, I used a bit that my father in law had that's got two blades on it that you can adjust in or out to cut a specific diameter hole. I had to double up the acrylic again once the rings were cut. I polished/frosted them the same way. I used some cheaper led strips that were 30cm long. I attached them to the cupholder first and then slid the ring over the led strip. I wired everything in by tapping into the interior lights.

This is what I used for the speakers: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/48cm-...Q5fAccessories

This is what I used for the cup holders: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2pcs-...Q5fAccessories

This is the tool I used to cut the cup holders: http://bestofferbuy.com/30~120mm-Ste...campaign=gbase

The speaker hole saws were more expensive:

Yes, the easy thing to do is just to run some speaker wire from the led strip to where there is an existing interior led. In my boat, the connectors were the type that you could just pull apart with your fingers. I just pushed some wire up into the connectors and reconnected them an then heat shrinked the connection. The led's draw so little voltage/amperage that you can run a bunch of them off of your factory interior lighting system without a problem.

The axis was introduced to be the low cost alternative to the BU. The boat you have appeared to be loaded . Can you tell what price range you are in now with all the add ons . 40k,50k 60k? I am just trying to get an idea of the boat you have compared to stock models like the CC 210, 226 and other brands of the same size.

I would say you could option up a boat like this for under 60k.
