    Wake the World - Alabama (June 27 &28 2011)

I havent seen a thread on this event here, so I thought I'd post in case someone was thinking about coming. Its coming up here in a few weeks and the more boats that can get out there, the better.

Info from Heath about the event and latest update for volunteers:

Ok guys and girls, we are going to have a Wake the World event in Alabama this year. It will be held June 27th and 28th at Silver Rock Cove on Smith Lake. We will be partnering up with Big Oak's Ranch children's home for this years event. I am expecting around 100 kids give or take and we will be doing boys one day and girls one day. So if anyone is still interested in donating yor time or boat please let me know so I can start getting everything together. Also if anyone wants to make a cash donation we are setting up a fund through my church at Riverchase United Methodist. Just make sure you let them know that it is for Wake the World. After going to Greg's event last year in North Carolina I can honestly say this is one of the best events I have ever been apart of. If you have never seen or heard of this event you really should come check it out. You can contact me if your interested at:

sidetracked3@yahoo.com or call me at 205-382-0516

I hope to see some of you there.

Hello everyone, the first annual Wake the World Alabama is approaching and I hope everyone is as excited as I am. I just wanted to touch base with everyone and make sure everyone was still planning on attending. If you are not going to be able to make it please let me know ASAP. Especially those who have offered to bring your boats for the event. Just to make sure everyone knows, the event will be June 27th and 28th. I would like all volunteers at the site by 8:00 a.m. We are planning on the kids being there around 9:00 a.m and will go till about 6:00 p.m. We will have lunch and dinner for everyone so our plan is to just have each boat come in for lunch when the kids start getting hungry. Then we will have a set time for everyone to come in for dinner. We will also need some volunteers to help stock each boat with bottled water so the kids stay hydrated. All of this will be furnished. We also need to make sure for all of the boat owners that they have a ((CLEAN)) music playlist for the kids. And to make sure they have enough life vests on board for everyone. We want to make sure the kids safety comes first. For the people that are not familiar with the lake I will let you know where the closest marina is to gas up at. But try and have your boat filled up and ready when you get there. Below is the directions on how to get to Silver Rock. If your not familiar with the area you can do a search to find the major highway that will get you to the exit. The directions are pretty accurate after that. We will also try to have a gathering either Saturday or Sunday for all of the volunteers to just meet each other and possibly go over some details. I look forward to meeting all of you and sharing this wonderful experience.

Silverrock Cove on Smith Lake in North Alabama.

The closest community is Crane Hill, AL.

Directions from Interstate I-65 are here:

GPS Coordinates are (34.071502,-87.11566) but Google Maps has an old view and still shows the location as undeveloped.
