Like you, I have Progressive as well. I was actually going to insure another vehicle with them next week. Now, maybe not.

i'm going to call them tomorrow and see if i can get my premium lowered. my insurance went up 120.00 this year w/o any policy changes or driving record issues. if i can get that new fee waived using their scummy practices against them i'll be happy.

This Katie story makes me sick.

P went up a bunch on my boat policy. It was due last week so I only paid the first installment instead of full for the year. Before the next payment is due, I'm going to shop.

If I give them the boot, I'll remind them of Katie.

i just called to try to get my policy back to what i was paying last year instead of the 15% increase this year, but no luck. i also found out that if someone drives the boat more than 12 times a year, 12 being how many times that person has tied up, gone out, tied up, gone out, etc rather than maybe a simple 24 hour period. i have to add my driver to my policy, and thankfully he does not have tickets on his record. according to progressive how you drive a car directly correlates to how you operate a boat. and now i have to pay 5% of my boats value($43,000) if damage occurs from a named storm rather than using that wonderful vanishing deductible. anyways, i'm calling ski safe right now.

i told maria that I am a PN member. basically everything is great. however, they don't cover named storm damage and i live in mobile, al. it's $205 cheaper at skisafe for the same policy and agreed value. i'm going to mull it over, but i think i'm going to have to find someone who does named storm. calling allstate next. bet i end up staying with regressive.

Jus did geico online. 99% sure I'll be switching to them tomorrow after I speak with an agent.

That's who I was going to try. I need named storm / wind damage also. 2 years ago, progressive lowered the coverage/raised the price and deductible for wind storm damage. I priced skisafe and the storm coverage was a no-go or something worse than Progressive so I kept Progressive.

Everyone should check their policy for wind storm damage which probably includes tornadoes and "named storm" might also be different.

Shop for insurance carefully. Never forget this. Insurance companies are in business to make money. Consider that big flashy TV ads cost money, and the cost of the ad is paid out of the premiums you pay.
Also read the policy carefully. The last time I was insurance shopping, I did get some quotes from "car" insurance companies, and there was a provision in the policy that only people whose driving records were turned into the insurance company could drive the boat, and have coverage. This policy may work with cars, but I bought a ski boat, so I could ski behind it.

I am glad I live in a part of the country where we do not give wind storms names, and there are no animals in the water that want to eat you.

i just setup geico to start sept. 4th when my progressive policy is going to be cancelled. saving about 110.00 a year, much better liability and medical, and way less dumb rules about drivers and where the boat can be parked and still have coverage.

I know this is like my 2nd post, but I hope it doesn't go as advertising. I just want to tell you guys my story about Geico.

My girlfriend (wife now) got hit by a guy that was uninsured that ran a red light in April of 2010. Her family was halfway across the world at the time. She nearly lost her leg, went through 11 major surgeries, and stayed in the hospital over 25 days. Needless to say, it was a huge toll to help take care of her, her house, her bills, her insurance, etc. I filed the Geico uninsured 2 days after the accident and we had the full amount from Geico within a week I believe. They even called and told me that I need to file a claim for her helmet and jacket, both of which were destroyed. We have decided that we will stay with them for our lives, regardless of price. During the dark time, they helped us tremendously.

Now I don't have a boat YET, but I wanted to let you guys know the story.

PS If you decide to ride a motorcycle, please wear a Scorpion helmet. It was responsible for saving her life.

I switched to Global marine (no big flashy ad's) 3 years ago when Ski Safe almost doubled my premium after nearly 20 years w/o a claim. I have been satisfied with Global marine. I know Ski Safe helps the site and I commend them for that, but I just had a bad experience and at that time, the people at Ski-Safe didn't impress me.
