Agreed. Just keep moving. Side note: I love minimus shoes and the idea behind them, but you better find out if your body is designed to handle them first. Just walking is fine, but any intense running or lateral movements can get you messed up depending on your arches and gate.

gride, couldn't agree more with you on the "minimus" concept. Too many people have "drank the Kool-Aid" of barefoot running concepts, and have no idea who should fit into that category. It was not the control/stability shoes that caused the demise of the runner to go into an over-pronated position, it is typically genetics. I see far too many people in my clinic with Posterior Tibial Tendonitis, Achilles Tendonitis, chronic knee pain issues b/c of people reading the book and believing the bunk. Some can do minimus shoes (which is great), and some cannot. As for CrossFit and power-lifting concepts, the idea of minimus is similar to the standard lifting shoe that has been used for years, in which being "connected" to the floor as grnking suggested above is a good idea.Todd Aalbu

Gride, your disrespect for crossfit shows how little you know about training, in my opinion.
Full disclosure: I am not a crossfit member, coach, or affiliated with crossfit in any way. I have only completed a single crossfit workout, and can tell you as someone in good shape that has been riding for over 15 years that there is nothing like it. There is a reason many of our special forces members do crossfit.

Look. Crossfit is a business model. Pure and simple. You can whine and explain all you want. I applaud the guy who put workouts from the last 100 years into circuits & makes money from it, but all it is is cross training with a "time constraint." I've been around gyms since I was born. Preach all you like. It works. I'm just saying its not an invented workout. So lets shut up and get in shape.
Ps. Proper form is more important than speed or weight. "Butterfly pull ups" are bad news.

Like many of the post have said, doing anything is better than nothing. As a life long gym rat, 25+ years, I have an appreciation for what CrossFit actually does. You can say all the negatives you want, but the positives out weigh them ten fold. Is it for everyone, no and I understand that. For some of us, being part of a group/team has a huge impact on our performance and willingness to stick with something. Its an affordable way for the general public to get some pretty good coaching and programming. Most personal trainers will run you 5 bills a month if they are any good. A group setting, CrossFit, lessons that cost. It has people doing things they normally never would have and that is a good thing. If you can afford to have a personal strength and conditioning coach do sport specific training then great. If not, crossfit.com is free like mentioned above. There are plenty of demos to show you what to do. Have fun with it. Being healthy should be fun. Grab some buddies and try and work out and have fun!2001 Super Air Nautique

- close enough to the lake to be able to run in and grab a beer, but far enough not to pay the taxes!!
started exercising 2.5 years ago - last 8 months Crossfit (love it & really improved my run/jogs times). My health has improved greatly, blood pressure down and cholesterol where it should be.
Also...NOW I Wakesurf 3 TIMES as long as my friends when we go out because their legs get tired...SWEET!

I knew that sounded familiar. Sitting out at Buzzard Bay right now. Water is less than a foot at the dock. We need some rain. View from the porch is still quite good, and the air temp. is perfect.1998 Ski Nautique (Red/Silver Cloud), GT-40, Perfect Pass Stargazer 8.0z (Zbox), Acme #422, Tunable Rudder.

Ok since fitness is on our minds what 2 exercises would best help a wakeboarder or skier in the off season and why ?
I say :
1)dead lifts ( help core and grip strength)
2) box jumps ( help with explosiveness off the wake)
Any other ideas?

Olympic lifting will create the greatest explosive power. I prefer the clean and jerk. The snatch is an extremely difficult lift to master so it comes in a close second. Core work is obviously a must, but any external object you move requires the tightening and strengthening of the core. Kettle bells are great as they use a violent hip extension and require your core to be tight. They also take up very little space in a garage gym.2001 Super Air Nautique
