How is she going to carry it?
And what is your concern about the double action? (I'm not saying I'm concerned or not concerned...just trying to understand your concern.)

I'd also like to know your preference of 380 over the 9 mm.

She will probably purse carry, my concern with the DA is the initial trigger pull, i have never shot the bersa, I cant imagine it being an issue for her but you never know, she just may not like it. As far as 380 over 9mm, 2 factors, first availability. good lick finding one. all my local sports stores and gun shops are out! No ammo around either for under 30 bucks. The second being recoil. I beleive the bersa would be a little easier for her to shoot vs. a Glock 9.

The reason Im asking is because guns are few and far between right now. Even on-line sites are sold out. But, a friend of mine has a little shop at his home and has the bersa now. So the question is should I snatch this up or wait who knows how long to find her a 9mm. The Bersa will not be there long Im sure.

I would say wait for a better gun. That gun is okay (my brother just bought one with a laser grip - and he likes it....but he has mostly revolver experience; no autos.) Except for glocks and S&W, there are many guns out there and NIB on Gun Broker.

Will she have the gun inside a pouch also? If not, I'd like to see something with a safety.

A safe carry gun to consider is the sig P238. It is small and has single action so the first shot she has to pull the hammer back. Bad part is there is no de-cocker so she would have to be comfortable setting the trigger down. This one is also available in 9 as P938? They also have a fairly small 9 with a de-cocker.

Of course there are a bunch of double action only pocket 380s.

I prefer the Glock 26. It is a little bigger, but that guns the real deal.

I have more but have to go. Check out at 2 and I'm packing up for the drive to H town.

ps - also check out the springfield XDM sub-compact 9. It is poly, short bbl, and short grip and has lots of friendly safety features.

Thanks for the input I will check those out. My ideal gun for her was the s&w body guard but again, none around. Enjoy your trip.

good luck getting a glock. 2 year wait list. you might be able to get a cal. compliant one faster, but who wants that. My personal opinion is that women who are new or just out of practice need to carry a revolver. the s&w j frame is great, but it's only a 5 shot. many people don't realize that if you go limp wristed or don't manage the recoil properly an auto is going to malfunction and put your life in danger. most women also don't feel comfortable carrying a bullet in the chamber of a double action semi auto. thats just from my personal experience.

I am actually picking up a Glock 45 SF on Monday, he has 2 of them. And I did end up buying the S&W Bodyguard on gunbrocker.com last night for the lady. I am going to go through a tactical course with her. Im confident she will be secure in her carry.

go with the ruger lcp .380. my wife has it with the lasermax. i'm thinking about getting one for myslef to conceal. it's a sweet little carry gun and much easier to conceal than the s&w bodyguard.

The glocks are out there. Not in the usual numbers. But they are out there....especially Gen 3 (which I like better).

                        I'm glad I could help. I think I've bought 4 guns off gunbroker....3 pre-owned guns NLA.
