    i need a new drill...

the "hardest" job the drill will perform is reinstalling the cooler seat from my 210. occasionally i'll use it for demanding tasks, but not too often. with that said, i'm partial to dewalt after using a buddy's and hate black&decker. would a 14.4v li-ion dewalt be a good choice for all around use or should i step up to 18v, but go with nicad batteries?

You can never go wrong with more power. Never had much use for a drill with less than 18V. For that matter I always bring out my corded drill (DeWalt)

Based on what you said I would get this:
      http://www.acetoolonline.com/Dewalt-...w-dck211s2.htm

If you only need a screw driver get the kit with just the impact driver. They are very light weight with a ton of power and led lighting.

I have makita 18v and love it, but my dad is a dewalt guy (has 12v-36v) and I've used the 12v and really like it, of coarse I would buy the 10.8v makita lithium ion stuff but again, check out the 12v dewalt.

It's not of the same quality as a Dewalt or Makita but I have been very happy with my Ryobi cordless power tools (drill, circular saw, reciprocating saw and impact driver). I have owned my 18 volt nicad Ryobi drill since I bought my house 4 years ago and have used it and the other tools on numerous projects without issue. Those nicad batteries don't hold a charge as good as they used to but I still get a good 45 minutes of good use before it starts to wear down. I have two nicad batteries so the 2nd one is usually charged by the time the first one wears down and vice versa. I got the 18 volt lithium ion impact driver about a year ago and love it. The lithium ion batteries are night and day better than the nicad but if you are only doing small projects then the nicad are fine. I am far from a tradesman but I have used these tools quite a bit and they have held up really well. Home Depot often has pretty good sales on the Rybobi starter kits.

i ended up going with a dewalt 18v nicad that came with the 1hr charger and 2 batteries. it lacks the LED light, but i have work lights if i ever need it. all in all im extremely happy with the purchase. my dad has a bunch of ryobi stuff with the interchangeable batteries and he loves them. thanks for all the insight. next is a saws all, then either a circular saw or chop saw.

I have the Ryobi 18v set with 5 tools. The non li-ion batteries don't last more than a year. Tools are OK for general use but if I had to do it again I would upgrade. After three year I had to replace the drill as I burned out the brushes.

My dad actually passed away and I have a bunch of 18v DeWalt for sale. They are the ni-cad version but still accept 18v lithium ion. I have drills, circular saws, and sawzalls for $25 each PM if interested.
