if they've attacked before then more than likely they are going to be put down. i say good riddance. in a truly just world the parents(owners) would be and the dogs would be rehabbed, but oh well. thats my opinion only. nobody else's.

I am a veterinarian, PM me if you have questions about your dog, treatment, recovery, understanding the medical jargon etc. Nobody has asked the most important questions re: the charges against you... Were there any witnesses who can refute the girls statements?

as a non lawyer, i'd argue that the dogs showed aggressive tendencies in the past and that the owners knew of their dogs behaviors here to for, charges dropped, you file a civil suit to cover medical costs and get a restraining order.

The vet bills and your medical bills need to be covered by the parents. If not, lawyer up. You have more self control than me as well. They will need to be taught a lesson, the hard way.

I would normally agree. I always thought pits got a bad rap. But after seeing the veracity first hand ive changed my mind. these dogs are horrifying. If i was beating on a man the way I lit up this dog he would be in a coma, but this dog didnt even blink. Im no Rocky, but I should have hurt that dog. I didnt even make it blink. Ill get the shovel.

Personally I do believe they get a bad rap, but the owners do nothing as far as training to minimize the potential aggression (present in most larger dog breeds) and maximize their positive traits (loyalty, intelligence, affection). Obviously these dogs belong to owners whom fit the stereotypical owner profile of the breed (at least presented by the news media). I have been bit by almost every breed of dog there is, but never a pit bull. Go figure

Glad to hear your lab is recovering. I've had a couple come at mine while either out walking or in my back yard) but they backed away before I could react. But I was ready to do whatever it took to get them off (didn't have a gun, though). I understand what you're saying, but if you accept the fine that's a sign you're accepting guilt. Get a lawyer and work on the history of the dogs. And no, I'm not a lawyer but am pretty good at playing devil's advocate. If they raised two dogs that visicious, they aren't going to do the 'right thing'. I know you said they were leashed, but wonder if there are any provisions for not being able to control your dog? I've seen several times these little women walking either a or a couple of big dogs...no chance for control. And of course one is always either a pit or rot.

Yes. Another neighboor saw my dog approach her and the other dogs and cower when she realized she was in danger. The same nieghbor was a tremendous help and support driving my dog and I to the local vet and calling ahead to prepare them with the situation.

I'm no lawyer either but my guess is this is gonna come down to a percentage of blame and well you are both to blame. Your dog got outa control as did theirs. And if it ran off your property that's even worse. If I were you I might consider talking to them and maybe you both drop your charges and come to terms without going to court. Your down 2grand right now and no telling how much you have to spend yet or how much even the courts would rule in your favor.

Good to hear your lab is recovering, there is no excuse for people that teach there dogs to be that vicious. Hopefully a lawyer can help you through this.

Did this all go down in the street or was it still on your property? Not a dog owner, so I am kind of oblivious, but are leashes required on your own property?

this went down on the street. Good question, I need to find out if leashes are required in the yard.
