    Car Buying issues

So yesterday I went to my local GMC dealership to purchase the new Sierra. When I got there I test drove the one that they had there and it was awesome. There was only 2 big issues I had with it, A) it was white, B) it had the 3:02 rear end (6500 lbs towing) and I need the 3:42 rear end (9,000 lbs) to comfortably tow my 230. So I went into the dealer's office and he ran a 500 mile search of other dealerships for the truck that I wanted and no one had them. So I asked him to just order me one and I would be patient. He then tells me that they have already reached their limit for how many they can order in X amount of time so it will be 2-4 weeks before he can even place the order and then about 12 weeks for them to have the truck to me!?!?!? Does this not seem a little messed up to you guys? They have a paying customer here willing to buy a car from them but yet they have to wait 2-4 weeks to even place an order for me? Seems like a messed up system to me.

On a good note, the new GMC is so much more than I expected! It is extremely nice, comfortable, and good looking! It is nicer on the interior than my wife's Cadillac CTS. I would post some pics but for some reason they are showing up sideways so i guess you'll just have to take my word for it haha.

Been a dealer for over 14 years. It sounds correct if he is a smaller dealer they only get certain allocation. Call a larger dealer and ask them the same question

part of the reason I went to Ford is because the GMC and Chevy lots only had fully decked out trucks. The Ford lot had different trim levels, one of which was EXACTLY what I wanted, down to the color. That and a lot of post-purchase details (fit, finish, ride, etc) lead me to the fact that I'll lever go back to GM. Will still look at Dodge and maybe even Toyota when I get around to trading, but I've had it with GM.

Limiting the number of orders doesn't sound like very good business. Maybe the person spec'n the stock trucks needs to rethink what they are ordering.

There are rules on how many custom orders a dealer can make outside of the batch orders. It is proportional to their sales if i understand correctly. Sometimes I think they say that just to see if you crack and buy what you don't want off the lot or dealer trade.

Unrelated to the rules, I thought it was the time of year that no trucks were being built. Isn't it too late to order last years and too early to order next years?

Finally, wtf would anyone buy a GM vehicle?

The LAST GM I will ever buy new.

(p.s. right now it is down due to a bad a/c compressor clutch bearing.)

I bought that 93 short bed for my wife for her birthday in 1993.

That was kind of the problem I was having. Any of them that ARE decked out like I want it have AWD, which I dont need. For some reason it is tough to find one decked out with all options EXCEPT AWD.

Took my truck in at 90k ish 3 time with a slipping transmission, the dealer said he could never feel it. Well I did and I'm no " GM tech". At 110k the transmission failed. After 3 months of passing the buck, GMC pretty much said sorry about your bad luck. I cancelled onstar, told the regional GM manager to kiss my azz, I nor my company will ever own a GM product again. ( my whole fleet is GM now) I see why they need everyone's tax dollars to run, they suck on their own in customer service.

Just a thought. In order to meet fleet gas mileage standards, GM can only sell X number of low fuel mileage (low geared rear axle) a year. People who know rear axle ratio is probably just as important as engine size in a tow vehicle, if not more so, have already bought the 2013 model year's quota of trucks with a suitable rear axle ratio for you. Blame the people who buy a 3/4 or 1 ton truck for there semi annual trip to Home Depot for a six foot 2x4.

are you saying the US GOV CAFE standards are responsible for GM having to produce a limited number of gas guzzlers? doesn't surprise me. big govt and bureaucracy at it's finest.
