My wife is a chiropractor and I can testify that regular adjustments greatly improve overall health. Joints included and the importance of stretching is crucial. She promotes a joint supplement by metagenics called chondro care that has good quality glucosamine and chondroitine with mms. Pm me for a bottle.

Ps not a sales pitch just offering a good help for joints.

I'm 61 tomorrow and I really don't want to tube. I'm going to the lake in September to ski. My 80 year old friend still skis and 5 years ago tricked for us for 20 minutes.

I will caution about the language, but here is a funny perspective from Louis CK about his ankle and being 40.

I haven't seen this mentioned yet but you should always try make sure to land with the board in a position so it is edging away from the wake. Continuing your momentum outward after landing really helps to lessen the impact on your knees and back. It also helps to land on edge verses the board being more flat against the water.

Stretching and warming up is all that has worked for me since turning 40....good luck.

49 here, so paying attention to these kinds of threads! I switched to a SS Lyman 2 yrs ago and I can tell the difference in my knees after riding. Came from LF, Ronix Ibex, Cwb Transcend. I'm also riding the largest board in this model. I too am really trying to do W-W, definitely feel those landings in the flats!

49 here, too. So is the Lyman a 3 stage rocker? I thought continuous rocker was the softer landing . . .sidelined now with collar bone fracture (mountain biking -- bad timing, to boot).

HS, Lyman is a "hybrid" continuous, so mostly continuous. It has a lot of rocker, but it's FAST board.
funny coincidence on the collar bone via MTB, I tore my AC ligament thanks to a toss on the bike, rehab sucked!

Ride a hydrofoil! Go huge and landings don't hurt the knees. I had 5 knee surgeries and cant board anymore, but no worries. The foil is more fun anyway! They are a little pricey, but so are Nautiques!

^ This is the best advice in this thread. I'm not meaning to offend anyone, and I am sure that strength training and stretching, and supplements to keep the joints lubed will help with joint fatigue, but sooner or later you are going to land wrong and blow your knee or ankle out. The beauty of foiling (which I got into after an ankle injury wakeboarding 2 years ago) is that your knees and ankles are safe from destruction, and you can ride until you get bored, because foiling is not fatiguing. You can still knock yourself out, but you can do that wakeboarding, and no one is going to call you anything for wearing a helmet and cushy coasty vest foiling. They will all be too dumbstruck at how cool it looks to simply ride up and down and do little jumps. I have yet to meet anyone who started foiling (who could get up) and didn't basically drop all other watersports. It is pricey, but if you can resist upgrading your foil kit every year, it is manageable.

I don't know anybody with one -- (I WOULD LIKE TO TRY BEFORE I BUY.) Below is a link to the entry level Sky Ski -- where should a person start? With this or a step up from this model?

Had a "slap" tear on my shoulder due to mountain bike wreck. Now I just stick to something much safer like wake boarding. lol

With all respect due to everyone who derives pleasure from being dragged behind a boat, kite skiing is pretty easy on the knees too, but it ain't wakeboarding.
