    BMW/Toyota/Lexus/Mercedes

Toyota is the #1 largest car company in the world by sales and has the highest market value. BMW is 13th and has a market cap of about 1/3rd that of Toyota. If anyone has the resources to build anything I'd say its Toyota.

And I'm not clear what you would consider a 3 series killer, i.e. what your qualifications are for such. But the 4th gen Supra came out in 1993, was discontinued in 2001, was sold for $35k new, and killed any 3-series in every qualification. 109ft 60-0 stop ; 0.98g skidpad ; 13.3 1/4 mile -- all this in 1993.
20 YEARS later the BMW M3 (since that's the flagship) still has a worse 60-0 and skidpad. It is quicker in the 1/4 than a 20-year-old (stock) Supra, so I'll give it that.

FWIW, I've owned a 335i, an E36 M3, and E46 M3, and a 328i. So I'm not slamming on BMW without having tested the waters. BMW does some things right, no doubt. But if Toyota/Lexus wanted to build a 3-series killer I can't imagine how they wouldn't be able to.

Man, Dusty always knows how to settle an argument! Perhaps because he's owned three of everything from every brand .

As a fellow Toyota Supra lover (from when i was early 20's) I have to throw in my support. The Toyota Supra is way better than the Nautique G23.

Reading over all the responses it seems this discussion quickly became a Toyota v BMW thread more than a G23-killing-Tige thread, which is just kinda funny. Guess it shows how much the community feels that is a true possibility.

Nah, but its better than a Tige!

I still have my first Supra I bought in 1998. Its changed just a little bit since then, but she's still my baby.

Perfect. Sequoia and a 5, here. Could go for an M3, though!

I love how no one has complained that this thread was jacked a long time ago.

Nice car. I had 5 Supra's over the years and regretted it to this day that I didn't buy the year in the picture above. But I can't complain I bought a M5 instead

                Thread definitely jacked LOL.

Thanks Pjoachim. The MKIV Supra is an amazing machine. The M5 is a fun car too though, can't complain about having one of those. A little more friendly of a car if you aren't looking for a sports car. I almost got an M5 but went to Mercedes instead, found their interiors to be much more plush. Something about ~$95,000 cars with all-plastic interiors I just couldn't get past. Aside from that, very nice and a great car to own. Generally speaking their owners are a cool group too, unlike E90/92/93 M3 owners (generally speaking of course).

Sweet! We hijacked the Tige thread so badly we have our very own BMW/Toyota/Lexus/Mercedes thread (thanks Jeff / sorry). Now what to do with it? I've spent too much time insulting BMW to just let this die immediately!

Anyone road-race or drag race? Or have any cool car builds? Or is that too generic and should have another thread. How about have you ever done anything cool with a B/T/L/M? Or got any nice pics of one, yours or anyone's?

I have done some road racing with a C5 corvette. Now I have a C6 Z that I participate in track days with. Lots of fun but expensive.

Reminds me of wakeboarding and most other worthy hobbies. Very addicting and expensive, but with large swings of unforeseen expenditures. Most hobbies are relatively predictable with what you're going to spend...not road racing.

Yeah I just had to chime in, couldn't help myself. Being a strong Toyota/Lexus supporter/owner I get a little defensive (kinda like being a Nautique owner).

What PSI you running? Motor mods? 1/4mile time? I have a Fluidyne in my Supra, and an MSD in my turbo jet ski (currently with a rod in the wrong location).
Proteges are good autoX cars. Its always fun to see the guys that show up with more money than driving ability. Lamborghini had a track day last year at our local road-race course. Every owner assumed because they had $200-$450k cars they had the fastest cars on the track. It was a fun day "educating" them in my Nissan followed by my Toyota. Most of them bailed by lunch.
