Boat stereo- How important to you?

I see a ton of posts related to stereo equipment being upgraded with new speakers, amps, tower mounted speakers, satellite radio, etc.

I use the stereo in my boat, but not a lot. Most of our time on the water is spent teaching someone off the boom, or talking to each other as we hang out. We turn the stereo on occasionally, but as the day progresses, we sort of forget to turn the music on. I boat with several others that have a tendancy to do this same thing.

I used to have a big stereo in my car and loved it. Am I changing? Am I losing my coolness? I am 36 now....does this mean that I am heading downhill fast? What's up?

I would be curious to hear some of you comments.

My experience: depends upon who you're hanging out with in the boat
and what your focus is. Didn't even have a stereo in my 98 SN. Focus
was on hardcore skiing, and rarely had more than 2 in the boat.

Have speakers, amps, etc. in the 01 SAN. What we listen to, how loud
and how often tends to be dictated by the crowd on the boat that day.
Seems the more people, the more likely the music is blaring.

The irony, I've never wakeboarded behind the boat with music. My
fiance drives for me, and she can't/won't concentrate on what she's
doing while the music is playing.

BKH - Sounds so familiar! I never get to hear the stereo when I ride. One thing that I enjoy though is when I've taken the boat out by myself and just cruised around. I love the music playing loud. Kinda like in the car, when I'm by myself the volume always seems to go up. The crowd on the boat dictates the volume, but it seems that after everyone gets done, the beers are popped and the music goes up - great times!
Bigbald - I hit the 40 benchmark this Thursday. You're still cool - you're out on a lake in a Nautique

Happy BD gotwake. Lets see, we all care about our families and friends, and own Nautiques. Thats ALWAYS gonna be cool. Bigbald, I'm 46, still show cars, been playing drums since I was 9, (got to play with Eddie Money 2 years ago), crank up Whitesnake, Boston , Def Lepard whether driving, working out, or working outside. Does that make ME cool. NOPE!
But it doesn't make me square either. Take heart my man, your good to go, as all of you are. Reagrds to ALL!!! Mike

Another Boston fan out there! My kids think I'm nuts for listening to Boston but I usually tell them if they don't like it they can always swim back!

Absolutely my friend. Tell the kids that their debut album is in the world book of records for the most debut albums sold by a rock band. To date, over 27 million. June 17, in Jacksonville Fla, myself, wife, 19 yr old girl, and my 11 yr old son will be center stage, 3rd row for Def Lepard and Montrose. Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional!! The Best to ALL! Mike

                    RE: Music

Never had a sound system on any of my boats although a couple of the other boats on the lake are fully kitted up, all wakeboarders though. I guess you guys have access to a lot bigger lakes in the US were you can get lost for the day.

The only time I have the stereo blasting is when we are stopped, parked, anchored, whatever you want to call it or as gotwake put it, cruising around by myself or with the grown folk. Otherwise when we are sking, tubing, etc. its real low or off...

Boston is my favorite of all time! I've got my wife and three boys hooked also. We do listen to other stuff though like Earth Wind & Fire, Alan Jackson.....a good variety. My kids like KISS. We only listen when in between skiers or tubing. Skiing is too important (even with hand signals) to be messing around. Besides, I want my wife to hear me when I say "Hit it!"
                          Ski on dude!
