I'm thinking about buying a pop up camper. I want to see what bad and good things everyone has to say about them. I am looking at a high wall or an off road toy hauler. The one major negative I see is that it takes away from water time in the summer.

I have recently owned a popup and travel trailer. Sold the popup and bought the trailer. Then sold the trailer and bought the boat. As a family we had a lot of fun. Eventually grew tired of it. Set up of popup was a pain. Took twice as long as the camper. It does keep you close to nature, where the trailer was a rolling house. Used ones are cheap. Do your research ahead of time as many models have serious issues. Taken care of, they will last a long time.

I've never had a popup but we're on our 2nd travel trailer. I was worried about camping cutting into boating time, but we tend to use both at the same time. We camp locally (30 min from home) and go to a campground that is on the water. Since I don't live on a lake this is one of my favorite times.19 SANTE 210

I have been looking for a long time for a pop up. I did not want new and the thought of a used one was well lets just say not too appealing. I would however stop and take a look at a few that were in front of folks yards. Ironically the weekend I purchased my 1st Nautique, I still had cash in my truck (need to pay the taxes on the boat) I spotted one that the gentleman had since brand new, it was 10 years old, a Coleman. Nothing fancy, basic setup with a stove in it. The stove was NEVER used as he said I only boiled water in here, I don't want the grease to get all over the inside. I thought to myself ok so far so good. The cushions were all re-done, not one hole in any of the screens, brand new spare tire, and new electronic regulator ( he still had the $150 receipt). all lights worked, and no funky smell, very clean. Basically he and his boys grew out of it. He wanted $1500, I gave him $1400 on the spot. I have used it a handful of times and can honestly tell you. An overnight with your 9 year old son, cooking hot dogs, fishing, and building a campfire. NOT much is better. Don't get me wrong we love using the boat, but there is something about sleeping outside and just hanging out., Sorry for the story.

A truck camper would be nice, but it won't work on the Suburban. I kind of agree with Racingsims. I've had my boys out tent camping a couple of times and they love it. They don't mind the tent at all, but I would like my wife to be involved. She doesn't like the tent so much. I'm looking at a popup toy hauler today. We'll see how that goes.2002 Air Nautique GT-40
