I still like the story of the guy in SD that had a dog jump out of another boat into his, peed, and jumped back to the other boat. I need to train my dog to do that to any Malibus they come accross.

I used to put a leash on my dog and attach it to the pylon. But as my dog was a pup and more than a little rambuctious, I thought that the dog may not fair so well if she happend to jump overboard. So I decided to not use the leash once on the boat as a rule of thumb. I figure if she did jump, she'd clear the boat and just swim until I circled balk to fetch her. However, I do use a harness to help pick them out of the water.
This is exactly what we did. And for the most part he just stayed on the engine cover barking, and jumping the rope as it went by. There were a few times that he did fall or jump in. I just droped by him till my wife circled around to get us.

For years I would not allow a dog in the boat but last summer I decided to give it a try. As others have mentioned other than getting the hair out of the carpet it has not been a problem and she loves to go. We put a towel on the seat to protect it and I bought a shop rug to lay across the back of the boat so that she can climb in and out of the boat on her own (we do have to lift he onto the platform) I attach the rug inside the boat with a couple of short ropes so that she doesn't pull it off getting in and out. When one of us is skiing we attach her leash to the pylon so she can't get to the back of the boat and interfere with the rope. She is not a happy camper when we take the boat and leave her behind.

          Another lab, nice.

Just use a short leash so he/she cant reach over the gunnel. I stronly recomend the 4 point harness.
