    wakeboarding injuries

I was out on the lake sunday afternoon demoing a pair of obrien xenon
bindings when the claws that hold the bindings on the board malfunctioned. In mid-air one binding came off resulting in a torn hamstring for me.

And that is the very reason why I don't like the "claw" binding mounting system. I switched from Hyperlite bindings to Liquid Force when they went to the claw. All and all I think LF bindings are much better. Even if one of the LF screws falls completely off the board the other screw is still bolted through the plate.

      RE: wakeboarding injuries

I have hit the water hard enough to pull one of my bindings off of my board....well, only one of the bolts pulled-out, the other stayed put and bent my binding plate.

I have got several friends that have the claw and have had no complaints.

        RE: wakeboarding injuries

I've had my feet come out of the footstays on the SkySki and have the foil come around and almost hit the back of my head trying an invert. Since then we use Cinch--your feet don't budge in those things.

Bamanautique - I wish you a speedy recovery.

I've used the Hyperlite claws for 3 years. Last week was first time even a screw had come loose. My fault. Should always check bindings before going into the water. Fortunately, I noticed it before I took off. I don't see why Hyperlite screws would be any more likely to come loose than
          other brands.

Bamanautique was using the Obrien claws. I wonder if the flip up release feature can't be knocked loose allowing the screw to back out. Just a thought, I haven't had the chance to mess around with the mechanism personally.

I can see Mike's point about bolting throught he binding and into the board, but I wonder with the height speed and power that some of you guys get, if you wouldnt tear the binding off the board anyway if one bolt
          came loose.

The Hyperlite Platinum Claws are quite a bit better that the standard ones. They have metal teeth inside instead of the plastic stuff on the standard ones. We have seen quite a few standard claws move from the force of the rider causing the baseplate to spin out of the desired position. The teeth on the claws tend to go before the teeth on the baseplate, which seems to be made from a tougher material. Upon inspection, the teeth in the claws were completely chewed up and no matter how many times you try to tighten them, they move or work loose again. Not had this problem since using the all metal claws though.

Hope you hamstring gets better real quick so you don't miss ya ridin'

I've popped both screws out of one binding off of a double up before, but it's just because I didn't check them before I went out and they must have been a little loose. That's probably what happens most of the time in the case where bindings are coming off boards.

I use the claw and the bindings stay tight as long as you check them everyday you ride. Now if I could keep my back foot in on raleys I'd be set.
