Recommendations/referrals on Ski Schools

Looking for referrals or recommendations on a good ski school, plan on going sometime at the end of March with a couple of my ski buddies. We want to work on Slalom however if time allows or the school also offers instruction on jump and barefoot that would be great. This will be a Boy’s trip so we are also going to be looking for somewhere that has nightlife or whatnot nearby. No preference on geographic local, only that it is warm that time of year.

We did Bennetts in 2003. There is nightlife close by, around LSU. They do 3 events + barefoot + wakeboard. Very thorough jump instruction, even though I just did slalom/trick/BF. Nice facilities. Thinking of going back in March. Anne Bennett is extremely nice and a great host.

You might also check out Jack Travers. Their Sunset Lakes facility is great, and Jack is considered one of the best trainers out there.

I have been going to Trophy Lakes for the last, almost ten years now. They are under new managment for the last year and have really stepped up the coaching. They have a great jump coach and the slalom coaching is done by Seth Stisher, who is really good and friendly. Trophy is located just outside Charleston SC, so lots of night life. Also, you can't beat the water that they have there, it is a water skiers paradise. You can check them out H20smosis.com.

If you want warmth and night life, try Ski Paradise in Acapulco. We were there this past December and it was great! We had a great guest coach from Trophy Lakes (Tadd Shreiber) and made some great friends as well. Apparently Seth Stisher was there the week before our trip and we heard nothing but great things about him as well.

I just put in my reservation for Trophy Lakes in late May.

We'll be staying with the in-laws for a week down in Kiawha, only 15 minutes away!

Worked with Seth and Tadd last year, they are great guy's, we came away having learned quite a bit, the site is awesome as well. Was hoping to get back again this spring but does not look like that is in the cards.

When you are not skiing get to downtown Charleston, the bars are great fun!

This will be my 3rd time to Kiawah/Charleston, and I had no idea that they were so close.

The in-laws want to lay on the beach, which is fine for a day, so I'll be skiing until my arms fall off then hit Hymans for some seafood and beverages.

I've heard nothing but good things about the place - so I'm pumped about getting some serious instruction.

Absolutely. I love your idea / site.

You are slightly ahead of where I'm at, but we're dealing with the same issues.

I'm skiing on an O'brien 67" Evidence w/ double Targa bindings.

I like the ski alot, but I wish I would have upgraded on the bindings...the laces on my rear foot loosen with each pass.

My best run at the end of the summer was 5@15off 30mph.

Last year was my first consistently skiing behind an inboard and my first running the course.

My biggest problems seem to be a) breaking the bad habits of from years of freeskiing, and b) finding quality instruction.

I joined a private ski lake in late August and was able to run the course several times a week for about a month.

I went from shadowing bouys 2-6 to completing 1-5 fairly quickly and regularly....so I'm hopeful that I can pick up where I left off quickly for the upcoming season.

I spent a day at Trophy Lakes last summer while my wife was sunning on the beach. Great place, wonderful lake to ski on, great instruction and the the town of Charleston is a cool hang out.

We are planning to go to Destin this year, and I get to spend a day at Corry Picos just down the road. It is a great vacation when you get family time, and ski time.
