    The doctor called...

and confirmed my ankle is fractured...will probably have to wear a boot.

Anyone know how long these things take to heal? This is the first bone I've ever "broken".

    That blows.

I'm no doctor, and don't know how bad it is, but maybe 6-8 weeks? I'm sure your dr. could tell you.

I love when you go to the doctor to try and get help with pain you are having, and he's like "Well, quit skiing on it". I mean seriously, that's the answer for everything. Quit skiing. That would be like me telling him to quit golfing. Get real.

Scarlet, hope all goes well! Get that ankle back in shape before the warm weather gets here, which is hopefully before too long!

Hey Scarlet! Being a physical therapist, I wish you the best of luck. You will be back to skiing in no time, just tell your PT that you want your treatment to be very "functional based" with as much closed chain exercise as you can tolerate. If they have a pool, get in and start walking, squating etc. The buoyancy unweights the ankle fx, and yet will put light loads against it to help it heal. When you can, get into your slalom stance and start doing mini squats in the water too. Let me know if I can pass along any info to you. I am really fortunate, I manage an outpatient PT clinic here north of Seattle, in a 40,000 sq ft gym, am a PT and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and Coach, and get to have a 94 degree rehab pool in my clinic as well. God has blessed me with the ability to work with professional tour skiers, so I get to mix my love of skiing with my job. Let me know if I can help out-

Sounds similar to a "crack" on my ankle bone, tho a bit worse; tendon didn't separate from bone but actually pulled on the bone causing a "crack". After about 6-8 weeks of no bball (but NO cast), I purchased a KALLASY brace. UNlike any brace found, the strapping causes my foot to slightly rotate "inboard". This prevents further flexing "outboard" & eventual discomfort...pain...hobbling. FWIW.

I hear you. I have shot knees from wrestling and wakeboarding, so when I went in to see what was wrong - many things it turns out - and the doctor told me I should stop wrestling for the year, and not ride that much, if all during the summer, or my knee would just be shot for good. Upon seeing my soul die, the doctor, who has been fixing my brother and I for years, told me he was just joking, and gave me some rehab exercises to help my knee. It was pretty funny, he was completely serious at first, and juiced it as long as he could before telling me he was joking. My knee will never be 100% again, something is just wrong with the cartilage, but it does feel better now. Also, I haven't been wrestling or riding in college, so this is the break he wanted me to take.

Yo! I'm back in the saddle...

Took about 8 weeks...foot/ankle is weak from inactivity, but I'm ready to go.

I had to wear a plastic boot (a real pain) for several weeks, but I followed the doctors orders and didn't have any set backs.
