Thought I would share my first boat, it is always fun and funny to look back at your first boat -- oh the memories!! 1972 Saft-mate tri-hull open bow. 70h.p. Mercury, AM/FM Cass., tilt and trim, bimini top, top speed of 34 when trimmed up and a breeze behind you! Bought it in 1987 when I was 17. From there went to a 1987 2001, '94 SN, '95 Signature, to my pride and joy '05 206 Air, what a fun ride it has been so far!!

RE: My First Boat
one with a deep water start and two if you got up on combos and kicked off a ski! not bad for a little 70h.p.
You had to have good upper body strength though until you got up on the deep water start!! It was a great starter boat!! I taught alot of people how to ski & kneeboard behind it! Good Times!!
If anybody wants to share theirs, lets see them!!

I learned the deep water start behind a 14' tri-hull Forester with a 35 HP Johnson. It was not a big johnson. In 1968 when I was 14 my dad took our 16" sailboat to Lake Tahoe for a 3 week vacation. After the first week he went back to work and told us that if we could find someone to trade straight accross for a ski boat we could do it. Looking back that was one of the most selfless things he ever did as he really loved that sailboat. We found a 66 skier flat bottom with a 60 hp Merc. from there we went to a 90 hp then a 17' Hiatt with a Buick V8. The 60 hp required that you dragged a foot in a deep water start to act as a rudder because you were underwater for the first 30 yards. When my son was 14 I bought a 66 Barracuda with salt water in the engine for $700.00 My wife was not happy. However my son learned to rebuild an engine and transmission and how to ski. He's going to NCWSA Al-Stars in Iowa next weekend in trick and skis 2 @ 35 off as a junior at UC Davis.Nautiqueless in San Diego

We tried to get Brady to take some pics but he said he was busy with that Civil War gig.
First ride when I was in high school was my dad's 1975 or 1976 Bayliner Jamaica trihull - about 19', 7.5' beam, Vovo Penta I/O, and we used to take that thing through a slalom course! It threw a monster wake, but it taught us to stay on edge through the wakes!

My first boat is my current 82 ski nautique 2001.
The boat that got me hooked was my uncle's 18ft skeeter fish & ski boat. 75 hp outboard. We had a lot of fun on that boat.
When I bought my 2001 last summer for some reason I thought it was going to be alot more fun. What I realized is that I love the look, style, performance, and reliabiltiy of my boat but getting out on the water with friends is what it is all about. I am not having any more fun in my nautique than I would be having in anything else. (But I have no intentions of EVER going back to an outboard or I/O.)
