    Kiteboarding

Anybody ever try this sport? Just from a vacation, I'm hooked.. addicted. 4 days and the people at the shop are joking around with me about doing it so much. I swear this sport is more addicting than anything I've ever done behind a boat. You feel like you get so much more instand power from the upward lift that you dont get from a boat. Here, since you're being pulled upward, much less energy is required to get you out of the water, and chances are the kite will get you airborne immediately, probably by accident...

Here's a clip I like from the amazing learning experience Day 2.. 8-) Once you pass this hardest step, the learning curve is very steep!

The other is a shot of just launching out from the beach just so you get an idea of the kite I'm working with--plenty of power that.

If any of you ever get to a good kite boarding school or find a good instructor and have some time and $$$ to spend, I highly suggest taking this up. We already have a huge advantage just from wakeboarding.

Location is none other than Aruba...

We'll see if the lake can handle this... 8-)

EDIT: Hope the .mov file extension works..

haha! That's an awesome video! What do you do when that happens? What keeps the kite from pulling your through the water and breathing too much water? hehe.

I saw some people doing that in Galviston last summer, it looked awesome!

      RE: Kiteboarding

The harness and technology in the kite is pretty impressive. Its all very simple, but works with you very easily. The handle can move in and out, and the more "out" it is, the less power the kite has. So what happened then, I fell, got a mouthfull, and I think I lost the handle. It wen't all the way out and at that point the kite loses pretty much all of its power and falls. Now, this is preventable. But there is really no way that the kite can just keep pulling you out to sea with its full power, it will fall.

But hey, there was a catamaran (sp?) cruising by with a number of tourists on a dinner cruise thinking I was a pro or something, and when I had that fall I got a couple of woo hoos and screams, that was kinda cool.. ;-) Fun sport

I never did get out on the board ( Dang wind died and I did not get the chance) I did learn to fly the kite though. Them things have some serious power. I was just flying the smaller kites and they were dragging me at 230 up and down the beach. I am going to get back out when I get a chance and have some fun out on the water.

Nice, where did you get to try it out? Also, why were they having you control it on the beach? It's much safer, and more fun, at least body-dragging youreslf around in the water. Then you dont have to worry about the board, but get the feel for the kite and its power more accurately. When you're on land, you could get pulled into rocks and bushes if you don't know exactly what your doing, or so they say...

I've considered taking it up my sister lives in one of the best places in the world for it. (Right off of the Columbia Gorge.)

I took my class in Florida. I was practicing on the beach because it was my first lesson and that is how they did their classes. I started on a small trainer kite and them moved up to skiddin on the beach to get a feel for getting pulled up from the seated position. The beach I was on was long and straight with nothing but sand dunes and water around so there was not really any danger of hitting anything.
