Sorry - but do you have a way to reach them directly? I would like to know - how much more money do they need to actually get this poor kid a new dog?

I'm not sure, but you can probably call MC of Charlotte at 704-525-6660 and ask for Mike or Maeghan re: Spencer's dog.

P.S. poor kid indeed. Read his webpage on caringbridge.org. The boy is 7 years old, was diagnosed with cancer at 15 mo. and this is now his thrid go round with chemo and radiation. Tough situation.

bkh posted the phone number. They also have a webpage apart from the TMC discussion forum.

Hollywood, it's all good my friend. I understand your point. The internet is an inefficient tool like that sometimes.

In case anyone is wondering, an English Bulldog puppy from a reputable breeder will cost north of $1,000 and as much as $2,500 or more for one that is of show quality. These dogs are in the same ballpark in price as English Mastiffs, the breed of my dog Lunky.

like to add to rhodes post- i totally understand this kid wants a bulldog and has been fighting cancer. my thoghuts and prayers go out to him. im sure his family is at his side vey much. is someone going to have and take the time to house train this dog... i hope it wouldnt be sitting in its cage in fecal matter, as a result of lack of training. these dogs are very high maintence dogs. they also have a lot of health problems. they snore and drool constantly, and need the folds of their skin cleaned daily, or the can develop skin problems quickly. the health problems are seen quite frequently, as a result of the size weight breeding and pushed in muzzle. i just hope everyone involved in caring for this animal knows what their getting into. i would recommend finding a bulldog rescue, or looking for an adult dog thats trained already.. it would be much easier on the family during a process like this...........my .2 cents!

Maybe if they let me register over at the MC site i would probably take the time to go look at it. But, after several attempts a while ago to register, all i got back was saying i couldnt register (bet it had to do with the fact that i own a nautique). I am trying to do some restoration on my 196 (making a rear seat). Someone on their site posted some pictures but i couldnt see them because you have to register. Someone said that they were goodguys over there, i beg to differ. Several emails later and no response as to why they wont let me. I'd say east_tx_skier, go back to your we think we are better than everyone else site. Dont waste my time.

                mgswed,

It's not the users of the site, it's the owner. Unlike our site which is privately sponsored, MC sponsors the site and pays the administrator. They make it a pain in the behind to join if you don't own an MC because they don't want trolls or other brands discussed on a site they pay for. Their site, their choice -I guees. Their own members dispute the point often because they think MC is too controlling of the site. They've actually banned a couple of MC owners because they bashed MC too much. Anyway . . .

Two options: 1) If you want the info send a pm to east-tx-skier through his membership on this site. He is now a moderator on the site and can probably get you registered, or he is a nice guy and will probably copy and send you the pics.

                2) Attach a note to your registration which says "don't bounce me, I don't mean to stir up
controversy. I saw a post which might be helpful and need to register to see the photo." I did a similar thing, and the registration was approved next day.

I hate to get too off topic here since this is about a little kid with cancer.

mgswed, you don't need to be a member to view pictures in threads, just in the showroom.

Here is the thread regarding back seat construction.

                  http://www.tmcowners.com/teamtalk/sh...ding+back+seat

It takes a few days to get registrations through. It has nothing to do with the type of boat you own. I don't control that stuff. The site admin does. He's home with his family this weekend. This isn't my first visit to this site, but it is the first time anyone has made me feel not welcome because of the boat I own. Good luck with your back seat project.

Now back on topic. From all I understand, this dog will go to a good home. Spencer was very attached to their last dog. I don't see any indication that the dog would be neglected.

Thanks for your help. Just for the sake of mentioning this, they aren't surpirsing the parents with this one. Mike had a talk with Spencer's mom before undertaking this to be sure this was something they wanted.

East_tx_skier, I've read your postings on numerous sites. Like above, they are well thought out and reasonable. In my opinion, you're welcome here anytime. Thanks for bringing this important issue to this site's attention.

Thanks for the pm mgswed. As I mentioned, I'll be emailing the site admin on the other board about registration issues. It has nothing to do with boat brands as far as I know.

Just figured I'd update you guys on the progress. Mike has apparently fronted the money for Spencer's dog and delivered it to Spencer and his family. Below is a portion of what he posted today. To you guys, thanks for paying attention to this and taking the time to respond to my post.

                              KEEP THE DONATIONS COMING!

Maeghan and I spent 300 miles and several hours looking at puppies and decided on the female I posted previously. She had a ton of energy and was the most active of all the pups we looked at. To be honest we were torn between two pups that were polar opposites...one real laid back and quiet the other into EVERYTHING! We called Wendy to ask which would be a better fit for the family and Spencer...and she said clearly the active pup so that was how the choice was made.

Mom and Dad Griffin were very excited since Spencer had gotten to come home early and asked if we could meet that afternoon (that is why the pictures were taken with a camera phone, we thought we were waiting until 4/4…can you tell I wasn’t a boy scout?). BTW, none of the children knew anything about what was going on. We agreed to meet as soon as we got back to Charlotte (around 3:30 for those of you scoring along at home) at the parking lot of a local mall. It was kind of funny as the kids knew something was up but couldn't figure out what. I was struggling to maintain composure through the introductions…not sure if it was excitement, concern for the serious issues at hand or both. Wendy told the children that a group of us had heard about their dog, as soon as she said "dog" their oldest daughter yelled "do they have our new dog?" We walked the family around and presented them with their new English bulldog! The excitement on Spencer's face was real, and the kids all stood in line to hold her!

What a great family...Mom, Dad and all the kids! You guys have done a great thing here and it will be remembered for years to come.

From the bottom of my heart thanks to all of you for allowing me to represent you in this endeavor, Saturday April 1st 2006 will always be special.
