    Tactical Flashlights

Does anyone have or use one?

We live in a very safe suburb North if Dallas but do feel a little vulnerable when I think about protecting my family in the event of an intruder. We don't have any guns, big knives or anything for protection in the house. We have thought about a hand gun, but how likely is it if I hear something at knight I open a safe and get a gun out to go check? If not very likely I might as well not even have it. I also travel a lot and my wife would never grab it either.

Just curious if a tactical flashlight my be a decent and more family safe alternative to a gun and provide just enough protection to feel a little safer.

Buy the gun keep it in a safe place with easy access.I recommend a CCW and carry it everywhere .Take your wife and kids if you have kids to a good gun training school that teaches gun safety and proper use.Your flashlight will be of little value against an armed thug . Your family is counting on YOU to protect them if things go wrong the police will only clean up the mess after the crime has been committed.

There is no reason to get a flashlight if you don't have the means to confront an intruder(i.e. Gun). If you're thinking baseball bat or something. One handing a bat and a light at the same time is going to leave you at a severe disadvantage. A tact light will do nothing. What will work is preventative measures to prevent intruders. Motion lights , cameras, and general awareness.

If you're dead set on a tact light the Streamlight is hands down the best quality for your money. Their HP series is hard to beat. Every gear snob and keyboard pusher who specializes in internet warfare will tell you Surfire or nothing. Those that put this gear to the test daily and have to pay will tell you Streamlight and Phenix as well as couple smaller companies.

Unless you have the means to defend yourself in a life or death situation, confronting an intruder is a recipe for disaster. There are simple night stand safes and lock boxes that are very easy to access in a timely manner. While I share the view of a gun in a locked safe is a gun you don't have........... It still can be beneficial. If an intruder does enter your house most are 2 stories. You stay up stairs open the safe and gather your family. You will have enough time to access said lock box or safe and protect them if he makes his way upstairs. You just won't have that super quick to confront them reaction time. On another note. A handgun is not the weapon of choice for home protection. It takes lots of trigger time to become proficient. Add that to a completely dynamic fight for you life situation hitting the target is almost impossible without training. A shotgun is a much better choice for home protection. Load it with buck shot and it covers a much more diverse area. Not to mention simply hearing the sound of a shotgun racking in most cases will scare off the intruder before you even encounter them

I agree with what had been said. The thing I struggle with the most is when we hear a sound or something happens with the alarm, not sure I would grab the gun out of the safe every time and walk the house with said gun drawn.

That being said, I was looking at the judge or the governor, something that fired both a shot gun she'll and a bullet.

The Judge has only 5 rounds and the Governor has 6 . That may not be enough if you have multiple intruders. I keep a 12 round 40 cal with 2 extra magazines hidden near the bed. I have no kids and the wife is a better shot than I am so there is no need to lock it up

We have kids and my fear with a large caliber pistol is the bullet penetrating and passing through walls if and when I miss. If I have 6 410 shots and there is more intruders than that, it's just not my day.

A tactical light is useless unless attached to a firearm. Two keys for firearm use. Practice practice practice. Safety safety safety.

For a determined intruder, accuracy is much more important than caliber. The judge or governor are hard to shoot. Studies have shown that 2 accurate shots is more important than caliber, especially with today's defensive ammo. Unless it's a shotgun. One shot will do. Plus, your fear of adjacent rooms is mitigated . A Remington 870 pump shotgun or similar is cost effective and there are so many variants. 12 gauge for you, 20 gauge for the mrs and you. And yes, as a responsible gun owner you have to keep them locked up. there are numerous quick to access, (biometric, combos), safes available.

A simple thing to do is to find a local gun range attached to a dealer and rent firearms by the hour to get comfortable with make and model. Most firearm stores have local firearms instructors that can help you and your wife. this will greatly help your wife get over her fear. Plus, my wife won't listen to me. 😀. It is not wise of me to tell her how to wakeboard, golf, ski, nor shoot. I try to let everyone else give her advice on the boat, if not, it doesn't turn out well. 😀

I recommend a CCW permit and Fully believe in the second amendment. I did know an old guy though that kept a bright flashlight and a can of wasp spray for quick access... Wasp spray in the eyes might slow someone down, lol

I fully support gun ownership, just have not made the leap yet. My question is, every time you or your wife hears something at night do you grab the gun and go touring? Just haven't wrapped my head around that concept yet.

I personally have two dogs that can hear a cat creeping through the neighbors yard at 2 am . If somebody were to try to break in while I was home I would grab my gun and stand my ground in the bedroom with my wife behind me . There is no guaranty that I could stop an intruder with my gun but with out it I believe I have no chance.

I understand. My challenge is we have two kids in a 3500 SF one story house. So to get to them I have to go through pretty much the entire house. Guess it sounds like I am just making excuses, but it's a pretty big step for us.
