Trailer Bunks Re-Carpeting

The carpet on some of the Bunks on my trailer is wearing out. Does anyone have any advice on how to install new carpet? Do I need to purchase Marine Grade Carpet, replace the wood and start all over? Do I need to use stainless staples? Any advice would be appreciated.

If your wood boards are not rotten you can reuse them. Try Christine's Marine they have bunk board carpet and stainless staples they sell and yes stainless is a must otherwise they will just rust through. I'm going to be doing mine here soon as well and have always had good service ordering through Christine's but you can marine bunk carpet from a lot of online marine vendors.

I used some outdoor carpet adhesive and stainless staples... I also used marine grade heavier carpet.. From my experience, it lasts longer.

You do not want to use stainless staples. Use monel staples.

I've always admired the many different composite bunk options, but I just worry they're so slick-relative to carpet (despite all of its faults) that I'd have to wait until the rear end of my boat was in the water before I would feel comfortable releasing the tie downs. I only launch a few times a year since I'm on a lift, but when I do, the ramps I go to are pretty steep. I'd hate to have someone who is backing me up hit the brakes a little too hard and dump me 5' short of the water on accident.

Im with you on that. I will let you know. The reason I went with gatorbak instead of caliber was because the caliber is slick to ease loading boat. Well I dont drive my boat onto my trailer, I float my boat onto my trailer. According to gatorbak they claim their product is actually grippy and not slick which is why I went this route. That and the fact that the bunk covers are already pre shaped for the correct board you are covering.

I will try to get pics. The gatorbak bunk covers are the shiz! They are not slick. More grip than carpet but not sticky either. Its like the more pressure u put on them the more they grip. When i got home I took my old carpeted bunks out of my truck bed and there was sand coming out of them. No matter how many times I bounced the bunks on my truck bed sand just kept falling out. I couldnt believe all the sand and dirt they were holding.
