    New Logo

    Hey M3Fan,
What program do you use to make logos like that? I would like to make some logos for various projects but haven't come across good software for the dummies like me!

I use straight up photoshop. The key is to have a general idea before starting. In my case, I knew I wanted the silhouette in the background, because let's face it- the SN profile is awesome. I used a pic of the top half of a SN for the profile. The entire bottom of the boat, prop, tracking fins, swim platform, etc I drew freehand using the Path tool for the curved parts in PS and converting the path to a selection, filling with black. Luke told me what font to use to match the site (Neopolitical). Then, each element is placed on a seperate layer and moved around and shrunk/enlarged until it just looks right. You'd be surprised what stuff you come up with when you start playing around with an idea. For example, my underline of "Planet" turned out to be a ski rope tied to the pylon- this just came out as I was moving stuff around. This version of the logo is much easier to make than my other versions, which have many more complicated techniques in them (search for my original logo post to see them). Just keep trying different ideas and eventually you will get an eye for it.
