Well I don't know what to tell all of you that are poo-pooing the Wakefoil having never been on one. Seems silly to me.

I can only say this thing has been a blast so far. Getting up on it isn't hard. It's like starting on a really bouyant wakesurf board. Now getting the feel for "not too high, but not too low" is tricky. It's a challenge, which is the part I like so much.

Other things I really like about it:

    - It's something else for us to do besides surf or wakeboard. It's just another aspect of watersports which we all love.

    - I get as much out of teaching someone else as I do riding. Maybe even more. I love getting someone up for the first time on a wakeboard, surfboard, or foilboard. I'm good at that and it's very rewarding to see it happen.

    - The water doesn't need to be perfect to foilboard. We usually surf until the "Spanish Armada" invades the lake and then foilboard.

    - I don't need any "special rack" to hold it. It goes right in my stock racks from Nautique.

I agree with everything Charlesml3 Said. Getting up on the foils is a mix of getting up on a wakeboard and surfboard combined. Once your up is the tricky part. You have to find the perfect balance to make sure you foil. And when you are up and foiling it's pretty cool to hover. It's almost like you are looking down at the boat once you find the sweet spot. Plus your only going around 12mph which is nice and your not strapped in. I was just looking for something different and so far I have enjoyed. I highly recommend the foil-academy.com if you end purchasing. I learned a lot and I got a $100 discount when I purchased once I completed the course. Hope this helps.

I took that online course, I'll have to go back in and look for that discount...thanks!

I was wondering if you got the hang of it and progressed up to the longer foils, could you put the foot braces on there and increase speed and do some aerials similar to the chairs?

I don't see why not. The board is exactly the same as the one they use for kiteboarding so it has the holes ready on top for foot straps.
