    wake skating

How do you go about getting up on a wake skate? Is it just like a wakeboard, or do you have to hold onto the skate with 1 hand hand the rope with the other?

I wouldn't think you need to do a dock start or anything.

I'm looking at getting one, but I've never seen anyone use or been on one in person.

Oh! Also, what is so special about wakeskate shoes? Are they really needed?

            RE: wake skating

Wakeskate shoes are usually made of mesh, and have drains so that they are lighter when wet and also so that they dry a bit quicker. If you're riding a foam top skate you should be ok without shoes. However if you get a skate with a grip tape top you'll definitely be wanting shoes. I'd wear shoes regardless (even if they're old running shoes.) just for the comfort factor.

Anyways, if you have any other questions, just let me know.

Wakeskating shoes are not necessary. Depending on whether you get a foam deck or a grip tape deck though, you might want them. Like dragon said, don't buy wakeskating shoes. I have used old converse, and they work perfectly.

wake skate shoes may not be necessary but some kind of shoe is helpful. Even the foam decks get slippery and racking your in-step or top of your foot on the edge of the board is not fun!

feels just like a wakeboard once the boat starts moving and it gets pressed to ur feet.

dock starting can be done too, its pretty fun

I have a foam deck and have found that I like riding barefoot.....nice not to be trapped in bindings!!

.....but when I do ride in shoes, I have an old pair of vans that I drilled some holes in to help them drain better.

i also enjoy the feeling of going barefoot on a foam deck. don't think i'll ever be good enough on the skate to care otherwise.

Starting out you're going to probably want fins to add stability.

After you get used to riding and start progressing it becomes prefrence wether you ride with fins or not.
