Im waiting on the economy to die down. That should take care of most of the nonsense on the lakes we frequent. Way to many people out there on the water with more money than sense. Power turns when picking up a downed person, people driving to close and to fast by my downed person, people taking 20 minutes to load a boat on a trailer (bringing entire ramp to a stand still), the list goes on....And these are people driving G's and X series boats.

When the easy money dries up, most of these guys will have theirr boats taken by the bank. If you operate a boat this way, I doubt you operate your checkbook any better.....thats my theory anyways

One o the best moves I have ever made is moving to Lake Lanier GA. 700 miles of shore line with a ton of fingers and coves. There are all kinds of no wake coves where you can stop chill and swim in the 85 plus degree water without fear of other boats. On weekends we are out at 7am and done by 10am that is when all the drunks get up from the night before partying. Because I live on the south side of Lanier that is also where the giants live there is nothing like crossing a wake made by a 55' Searay going nose up full wakeage with a 19' comp boat . There is no licence or schooling required to operate any size or speed boat and it shows after 10am. Weekdays are great all day and since we are 5 minutes from the water its not abnormal to go out for an hour after work.

Same issues where we boat in Utah. Lately we have seen a jump in the number if kayaks and SUP's. For some reason they think they need to paddle across the middle of the lake instead of staying in the no wake zones, which is about 30% of the entire lake. You really have to watch for them because they are so much smaller than a boat. I'm surprised one hasn't been hit yet. I have 6 small kids, so I understand the whole tubing thing. But our rule is that the tube doesn't come out until we've skied, wakeboarded and surfed. My kids have figured out that all the other stuff is more fun than the tube.

Sounds like from this thread that every lake is pretty much the same across the country. Yeah maybe people in the way, drinking tubing or something. But the end result is the same, which is after about 10am things are bad. From July 4th to Labor day is the worst. Other than that I can get a little decent water before 10 and after at 8pm...but it is pretty slim pickings.

Best time to ride is April, May, Sept, October.

The economy being good is a factor, and of course, the surfing, and jet skis'. But we have our share of fisherman that want to be in the middle of the lake. Which is a pretty tough call cause they have as much of right to be in the middle of the lake as anyone else...

We call them tourist... Most of the time they are cruising around with fenders flopping all o er the side of the boat. That's the sure way to identify one. Same for us on weekends.. it's great for boating industry! Our lake is more crowded everyday! I miss the days of not seeing people out there.
