    Smoking

Without starting a big political debate, just wanted to get some opinions. Out with some buddies recently on the boat, when one of them lit up a cigarette. I told him there was no smoking in the boat, and he acted like I was out of my mind. He said it's outside, so it shouldn't matter. Now, I don't smoke, and I don't let people smoke in my car or home, so why should a boat be any different. Besides the obvious smell, what about burn holes in the vinyl or carpet. Not to mention its my boat, and if you don't like it...get the **** out! Anyone else ever deal with this?

    RE: Smoking

It's your boat, your rules. I try not to get bent out of shape and all anal about my boats and cars, half the time I'm the one breaking stuff anyways.

As you said, if he doesn't like it, he can swim. Any descent appreciative person would respect your boat rules seeing as how you are being gracious enough to let him aboard.

Just crack the engine hatch, let a few fumes out. He'll give up smoking in a real hurry once all his hair is burned off.

I am a reformed smoker, so I know what it's like. However now that I quit (9mo and counting) I let them smoke on the swim platform and put the butts in an empty can 9 (which there's usually plenty of)...but I remember the very first day I got my first boat and I was smoking while driving and a piece of the cherry fell off and burned a small hole in the carpet, so no smoking while the boat is in motion!!!! Smoke all you want in my boat, though agree with cam8901, please try to finish before we get moving.

                That said, your boat....your rules.

I personally dont smoke, but the only person who i will let smoke in my boat is my brother when i finally get him out on the lake to do some driving for me, i figure, ehh ill let him do it i guess, but he knows the consequences should i ever find any burn marks in my carpet/upholstery/paint, & he knows to not leave any butts in the boat... But overall YOUR BOAT, YOUR DECISION they dont like it, as someone said before, they can swim! ha

I only allow cigar smoking while low speed cruising. Especially since I am one of the persons partaking.

No smoking is allowed in my boat but if you want to do it on the swimstep that is fine with me, too many burn holes in my last boat from people that don't pay attention to what they are doing.

I guess that if you are not a smoker, it takes a lot of nerve for him to smoke in someone elses vehicle who is not one.
I would think that bouncing in a boat or just the wind would make the ashes fall pretty easily, too great of a chance for burn marks for me!

Not only do I not want burn marks in carpet / vinyl - I don't want second hand smoke in my lungs.

Not a chance on my boat.

Maybe if your mate would have at least asked you first it would have been somewhere towards polite and courteous. Your boat, your the boss. It cost you a lot of hard-earned so folks should respect that. Hope it doesn't spoil your friendship though...
