Second torn ankle tenden in 2 seasons. I keep tearing my ankle tendens when I crash on my board. I come from old school rubber bindings with the slime to get your feet in. Went to the new snowboard boot style bindings and when I fall they don't eject all the way. Instead during a crash the board hits the water sideways and my heel pull out about half way then gets stuck and tendens tear if it's a good crash where the board hits the water sideways and causes a lot of drag in the water. How are these new wakeboard boots supposed fit? I'm not sure if I'm just getting too old for this stuff or if my bindings are not set up correctly. Do I cinch my heel super tight so it won't lift during these types of crashes or do I loosen up the heel more so my feet come out more easily? Im afraid to do either because I'm afraid if too tight I'll really be at risk for tearing more tendens or if too loose then if I don't crash hard enough I'll end up with a partial ejection again and back in phyisical therapy waiting for the tendens to heal.

It is really tough to come out of bindings these days. I think ankle tendon injury pretty rare. Maybe your just kind of prone to it. I wear my bindings super tight on both top and bottom laces.
I don't know. Are you better off staying in or popping out. Maybe you gotta either go tight or loose. Maybe not in between.?

From my experience if your foot is moving around in your boots , especially inside the new hyperlites , your boot is probably to big , or the wrong style .
any hard crash I have had those ratchets will release and "strip". Your foot should stay locked in your boot.
Tthe the proper fit for a closed toe , especially the hyperlite systems , is a slight toe touch at the front when standing up and it pulls away when you bend your.knees and flex into the boot. The one fitment usually neglected is the "last". A boot should have equal pressure all around your foot 360 degrees Some boots are designed for narrow feet , other for wider feet. You should have no movement in the boot whatsoever if it fits properly. As you have found out staying half in your boot and half out when you wreck is the most dangerous position it can be . If that's happened twice it's most likely a boot that's not a proper fit . It is true new bindings keep you bit more locked in. But theyre are also way more variations available. Stiffer , softer ,wider, narrower , high cuff ,low cuff. If you have ankle issues. You are gonna want a reallly stiff boot with lots of support. The Marek is a great starting point. You can adjust the tension on the ratchet strap to ensure it pops loose when you wreck hard. As far as how tight to crank the boot . Tight but not tight you cut circulation off
What trick are you wrecking on that tweaks it?Last edited by swatguy; 10-07-2017, 09:11 PM.

I have some boots by humanoid. I got em brand new off eBay. They have two Velcro straps one for top foot and one for around lower calve. These hyperlite boots your talking about with bindings. You said you can adjust the binding straps to allow for a release of the boot upon crashing? Sounds like that's what I should invest in for bindings. If I keep tearing my ankle it's just going to get weaker and weaker so I need a safer binding if there is such one....
heelside backroll. I come up short on the rotation usually my heelside edge just slices into the water and and the drag of the board hitting sideways like that just stops it immediately while my body wants to sort of torpedo through the water so naturally my ankles take a good stretch during that failed trick.

You said you went to a new snowboard style binding . I assumed you meant the Hyperlite system bindings . The have a separate boot and a separate binding like a snowboard set up.
Since you you don't have them currently , may I suggest trying those out. Little more steps to get into the binding because you have to lace a boot and a binding strap, but the support and feel of being securely in place far outweighs that in my opinion .

I was always most worried about having one foot come out, causing the remaining foot/ankle/knee to get worked being strapped to a board. So my goal always was that on a hard crash I'd either want both to stay on or both come off. I feel like coming out is a pain so I've always gone tight. Considering your issues with ankles maybe you should consider taping (if you don't already), just saw something posted by WBM today... http://www.wakeboardingmag.com/wake-...src=SOC&dom=fb
