    BKH Get Well Soon!

Yesterday BKHallpass (Brian) had back surgery. Pretty scary stuff I guess the doc said paralysis was possible if he didn't get it fixed. I talked to his wife today and the surgery was a success but he is not yet out of the hospital, he should get released tomorrow.

Get well soon so you can go skiing/boarding by September!

                    broken back

I compressed lumbar # 1 about 60% on Tuesday June 13th. Was riding my kneeboard and landed about as flat as possible from a 12 foot backroll. Took 10mins just to get on the deck. Out for the summer, seeing the surgeon Tuesday.
Pretty much thinking I need to retire to surfing and footing......... sucks, boarding is my favorite thing in the world to do dressed.

                    Good luck BKH !!

                          RE: broken back

I had my back surgery just over 2 months ago, micro-disectomy L5/S1 (lowest disk). They definately know what they are doing with the micro-disectomy to alleviate a herniated disk, almost a no-brainer decision these days after seeing good cause from MRI.

Brian's was somewhat more involved, was supposed to be micro but he ended up with a pretty good incision between his shoulder blades. The vertebrates were compressing his spinal cord, future paralysis was probable without the surgery.

I just called Brian, he is up and around, still moving pretty slowly and taking some pretty good meds. He was hit a little harder than he expected. At least he is reading e-mail now...

                            RE: broken back

Thanks for all the well wishes guys. This whole thing came up rather quickly. I've been haveing trouble for six months with numbness in my left side. Took them a while to find it, as it was in the thoracic region, which is a little unusual. Basically, my spinal chord was being crushed at t3/t4. Didn't leave me with much choice. I had a laminectomy last monday. As someone said, my number one priority right now is to get healthy for the birth of my daughter in Novemeber. But, I'm highly motivated to make it to Green Lake. The Dr. says if I can stand the plane flight, then I can go. I probably won't be able to go out in the boats, but that's ok. I was really just looking foward to meeting the people anyway. So, don't count me out yet. If I can be there, I will be there. Thanks again for you kind thoughts. BKH
