How much HP does a PWC need to pull a wakeskater?

Does anyone know how much horsepower a personal watercraft needs to pull a wakeskater? Any suggestions on purchasing a used one? I want to pick one up for quick wakeskate sessions in the bay. Can't bring myself to put my boat in the salt water. Anyone wakeskating behind a pwc help me out!

RE: How much HP does a PWC need to pull a wakeskater?

Chris, I have never wakeskated behind a PWC, but I have wakeboarded and water skiied. Before purchasing our Nautique, my brother and I used a 2003 Sea Doo GTI for a full season to get our watersports fix. The GTI, which we still have, has a 2-stroke, 85hp engine. In Georgia, you must have a spotter on board. Between the spotter, myself, and my brother, the Sea Doo was carrying and towing around 550 pounds. We never had any trouble with the 85 hp engine.

As far as buying a used PWC, I would recommend finding a good mechanic to check anything out before purchasing. I know when I was looking there was a lot of used PWC available, but many people do not take care of their toys. I settled on buying a new one.

    Hope that helps.

I don't think you need too much HP, just make sure it's a 3 person. We foot behind my bud's 1100 and its actually too fast.
