You will be fine. I have been driving through the Mojave and Arizona deserts towing since the early 1990s. I also prefer to drive at night to avoid the heat, but I end up driving midday more often due to kids’ schedules. Enjoy your trip!

Lake of the Ozarks is a must if you've never been also. We take our kids there yearly for a week or more at a time and find plenty to do. Helicopter rides, water park, go carts, 19 or so golf courses, couple indoor amusement and water parks, caves, wineries, and a ton of on water bars/restaurants with swim up pools and most with excellent food. A lot of live music and entertainment at night for kids and adults.

Plenty of areas to find good water also. Won't be as calm as TRL but there is plenty of water and coves to be enjoyed. Recommend going during week as weekends get hectic unless you know the lake well. We love LOTO for what it has to offer, but would also love to see Powell and its natural beauties also!

That sounds fun, as well. cedarcreek216 - You may need some more vacation time next summer... LOL!

Trust me, we get as much out of the summer as possible. Pretty much save all our vacation time for use between June and August. Lots to consider here. Over the next few weeks I will map out routes to each suggested location and see what kind of stops are along the way. That will have a big impact so we don’t have to have long travel days. Kids and wife are down for those kind of days unfortunately.

Lake Powell is excellent. Another good Tennessee idea is Norris Lake, near Knoxville. Huge lake, lots of VRBO options, and good places to stop at along the way. We have stayed on the north side near Flat Hollow Marina a few times, but there are also good places to stay on the south side closer to Knoxville.

Lake Keowee and Jocasee in SC are beautiful lakes to check out especially if you are coming east. Dale Hollow in TN is awesome as well.

We booked yesterday and are doing one day on Tenkiller in OK, two days on Beaver Lake and five days on Lake of the Ozarks. Rented a house right on the lake at the Ozarks so should be a great time. Thank you to everyone who took the time to make a suggestion, I do believe a Powell trip and a trip to the Carolina lakes is in our very near future.

After watching on of my favor series on Netflix called Ozark, I would like to get there at some point. Looks to be a great choice for you.

I think a lot of the Ozarks was actually filmed in Atlanta. A lot of the lake scenes were filmed at Lake Lanier and lake Allatoona just north of Atlanta. Atl is the Hollywood of the south. Movie studios are popping up everywhere.

Yes this is true. It was filmed at Lake Lanier and Lake Alatoona. Both just north of Atlanta. Georgia gives tax credits to film studios so there are a lot of shows and movies filmed in Georgia, most around Atlanta.

Too funny I never knew that. Nonetheless all the boats and lake culture throughtout the series perked my interest.

My biggest reservation is having the kids on the houseboat and a notorious Powell storm rolls through and scares the dog out of everyone. The struggle with the trip as a whole is the drive, and lack of interest between point A and Point B. We won't have enough time to do the Grand Canyon and all of that so would have to make a second trip for that which means I would probably just fly the rest of the family out and drive by myself to cut down on days on the road. The perfect part about the Alicante trip last summer was our longest drive as a family was 5 hours, most days only 2-2.5 hours. And we were able to spend a few days in Three different stops so it never felt like we were on the road, other than me driving by myself straight through on the way home. That is a perfect place for living, my opinion!
This summer we planned to visit Spain for a couple weeks but unfortunately had to put the trip on hold. Hope to be there in the foreseeable future
