    2014 G23 vs 2019 23 LSV

    Hey guys first post on here. we're getting rid of our 06 Malibu and upgrading to a newer boat. We like the G23 but it's not in the budget to get a brand new one. What do you guys think about a 2014 G23 compared to the 2019 23 LSV? Has there been any major changes that would make the Malibu worth it? We mostly surf but do a fair amount of wake boarding as well. This will only be our 2nd boat and first SAN so just getting all opinions. Thanks!

    Probably not going to be a popular opinion on here, but I would go with the 2019 23 LSV over the 2014 G23. I demoed a 23 LSV a couple of weeks ago, and I actually kind of liked the boat. I would still pick a 2016 or newer G23 over it for the wave difference, but probably wouldn't go for a 2014 - mostly due to age, reliability, resale and warranty. If I didn't own a Nautique, Malibu would likely be my next choice.

    One other thing to consider, the 25 LSV has been selling really well for Malibu and is a sweet boat. I was surprised at how low the price tag was, but it is a little bit of a step up in price from the 23.

      The G we are looking at has 200 hours so it has hardly been used. But I have a buddy with a 13 G23 and he has had a lot of issues with the NSS and ive heard the stories about the prop shaft so that was a worry for me. The Malibu dealer in my area is notoriously bad to work with so that is the biggest thing that is making me lean towards the G. Would resale on a new LSV in 5 years be better than the G? Thanks for the feed back!

        To note the pre 2016 G 23 had spray issues with the hull . In 2016 the hull was modified to reduce hull spray

            No the G is at the lower end of the price range and the LSV is about $17k more at the top of our range. Were also considering a GS22 but we havent had the chance to demo that

                The local Malibu dealer has a pretty bad reputation. Everyone ive spoke with says do not buy from them although the sales guy we spoke with has been helpful. We have a nautique dealer 45 min away that ive heard great things about and the dealer in my city has been great. I went in with some questions and the owner of the dealership sat down and talked for 30 minutes about all things boating.

                  It's hard to say. The 2014 is essentially considered a previous gen boat, due to the minor change in the hull GMLIII referred to. With this years change to the top half of the hull, adding rear facing transom seats, I think 16-19 will eventually be considered non-current as well. Even though they are both minor changes, and the major bits are unchanged, that is kind of how the market views them. So you are looking at what will be a 2 or 3 generation old G in five years, vs. a current or barely non-current LSV - depending on future refreshes from Nautique and Malibu.

                  A 2014 boat is already almost 6 years old. In five years it will be 11 years old and the Malibu will be 5 or so. I am sure it will still be a great boat, but the math is not in the Nautiques favor there. But it sounds like you have some other variables to factor in as well.

                  Warranty is a huge factor for me. So many things can go wrong on boats that end up costing you A LOT of money. With that much invested you can't really ignore a problem or walk away. I have a 2016 G23 that that has had several thousand dollars in warranty work done. Is that typical, don't think so, but it happens. You could also argue that I have a perfect boat now that has been shaken out and the next owner will benefit.

                    I gotta say, for $17k difference between a 2014 G23 and a 2019 LSV23...this one goes in favor of the Malibu IMO. Any way you cut it, even with only 200hrs its a 2014 and only worth so much. A brand new boat with 5yrs of full warranty is well worth having when you look at the price differences here. I have not been a fan of surfgate in the past, but the 2019 boats put out a great wave that is not soft and has great push, been surfing on friends 2019 LSV22 quite a bit. While you will take a bigger hit on depreciation with a new boat, you will still get that $17k back plus some when you sell due to age differences between these 2 boats and again, having a full warranty makes a big difference. Malibu tends to have good resale (of course the G23 does too), but in 5yrs the Malibu will be "worth" double what the G23 is. (my comments are based soley on these 2 boats and the price difference you stated)

                    Having a good dealer is huge, sounds like there may be a concern there. I would have a open, honest conversation with them and tell them you have heard negative info, and it concerns you. See what they say. If you go this route, do a FULL QC check before leaving dealer, opening every compartment. Also do a lake test, fill/empty ballast and go thru every option in computer.
