    Hamstring Avulsion

    All,

I am a relatively new member (1st post). This website is great. It is nice to read all of the valuable insight that everyone provides.

Anyway, I am curious if anyone has ever completely torn their hamsring tendons away from their pelvis (avulsion)? I did this last summer, and I am considering surgery since I cannot ski or run in my current condition.

If anyone has had this surgery, could you share your experience with rehab?

    Man,
    Sorry to hear that.
I don't have anything to offer other than I hope you get well soon, surgery or not.

Dukes, I wish you all the best. I am a Physical Therapist, and my advice would be "talk to many different orthopedic surgeons,", and don't settle on just anyone. I would search out a very proactive MD, possibly a skier if you can find one, who knows the demands of a slalom skier/boarder. Hamstring re-attachment is a tricky procedure, and you will need a very proactive PT to help with your rehab. Good luck, God's blessings, and let me know if I can point you in any direction or pass along info to you.

I tore mine 3 years ago. Not totally but enough to take 3 years of PT to be able to ski again. I agree with Toda. There is a Dr Merilee Clauson in the Bay Area. She is an Anasteseologist(sp?) but an avid skier and when I talked to her she said that several people she nknew could have repaired mine. She should be in the book I beleive she practices in Fremont.

Thanks for all the advice. I am planning to get a couple of opinions from different surgeons. I'll post an update after the surgery.
