A friend of mine just released his first book, and some of you might really enjoy it. It deals with a tough topic - growing up with HIV in rural Virginia. The book uses humor to help get his story out there, and it really is a great read. It was just released last week. My wife and I really liked it.
Shawn contracted HIV through a blood treatment for people with hemophelia, which he was born with. He was kicked out of school because of his HIV status, and was given only a few years to live, but he went on to do absolutely amazing things. He shows no signs of slowing down, either.
Shawn and his wife Gwenn, who is HIV-negative, travel the country educating people about HIV and AIDS. I went to High School with Shawn, and have known him for about fifteen years. He's had an amazing life. Read the book to find out the details. It will surprise you.
