Annnnnd, that's why you don't unlatch until the boat is in the water...too bad for that guy though, he just got the boat back from getting it fixed - that was the first time he was going to launch the boat after he picked it up from getting fixed.

Did he have silicone or something on the trailer bunks? I have heard of that happening, but find it hard to believe. The ramp is not even very steep.

I saw it happen when I was 13 to my uncles brand new SN. His previous boat was always unhooked before he backed it down the ramp so he thought nothing of it. It slid right off the back of the trailer. Just last week my buddy went to unhook mine before I backed it in and I caught him. 20 years later I still think about that day.

wait, this may have to do with it being a v-drive. Has anyone every seen this happen with a direct drive?

I find this very hard to believe. Both of our boats have always seemed rock steady on the trailer. Maybe the v-drives are more prone to this...?

Oh, i see Aaron beat me to the punch.

This happened to me 4 years ago with my 66 Barracuda. I was pulling up the hill to go down the launch ramp and heard a scrapping noise. Luckily I stopped and quickly relatched it. All I suffered was the filing down of 1 blade on my prop. I had just sprayed my bunks with liquid rollers. Anybody want an almost full can of liquid rollers?

V-drives are a little more at risk with the weight more towards the rear; but honestly, there is no reason at all to unhook your boat before you do (at least the first of these) two things: get it in the water, and make sure the boat starts.

Wow. Man, that stinks. I always unhook mine before I back down, but I always hook it up before I pull up. Unless it's a steep ramp, then it's hook both ways. I might outta think twice.

Never even heard of this on an inboard. Except that one that was on a roller trailer. I never hook mine up. May start.....

Trust me, it can happen on a 06 196. I'll add those tracking fins are strong, only bent 1.

Have a story to go along with your statement?

I think it goes something like...boat slid off trailer and bent [prop? and] tracking fin, minor gel/fiberglass work as well.

I would think this happens much more often pulling up ramp, hard to imagine it happening the other way.
