    Lake Norris

Thinking about planning a trip to Norris Lake this summer.

Can any of you point me in the right direction as to where to get a cabin?

How is the water for skiing / footing? Are there any pro's and con's about this lake compared to others (e.g. Dale Hollow, Cumberland, Santeetlah, etc)

We're hoping to get a cabin right on the water so we can keep our boats right there w/o having to drive to a marina or launch each time we go out.

We talked about the houseboat option, but both families will have small kids so the wives aren't too comfortable w/ the idea yet.

Last year we went to Dale Hollow (launched at Eastport) and it was fantastic, but there is no housing available right on the water.

Many of you were a great help in pointing me to the right direction and I was hoping you could do so again.

    Many thanks! SA

    SA,

This is where I stayed last trip down to Norris and it was a great location. The marina is nice, good food, etc. and the property was well cared for by the staff. Also, the docking is nice which is typically a pet peeve of mine.

I cant stand when marinas have poor docking...

I would recommend Springs Dock resort. When I lived in the Dayton, OH area, we traveled to Norris Lake about 5 times and stayed in the condos at Springs Dock. The condos are right next to their marina and you can rent covered boat slips for a reasonable rate.
You will love Norris Lake for skiing and footing! There are numerous coves that will allow you to always find great water conditions. Here's their site: http://www.springsdock.com

We switched our annual houseboat pilgrimage from Cumberland to Norris a few years back. It seems like the houseboats are nicer and less expensive, the trip down is about the same amount of time and the water is still spectacular. I don't know for sure, but cabins might be less pricey than Cumberland, too.

Our '06 trip, which unforunately was an all-MC year. Yellow_Flash_Colorz: http://picasaweb.google.com/joehiestand/HB2K6

Hmm.. actually, I guess I have stayed at cabins at Norris. We've stayed at the chalets near Flat Hollow Marina.

            http://www.flathollowmarina.com/rent...wood/index.htm

There are boat slips just down from the chalets. I haven't stayed anywhere else down there so can't compare, but they were nice cabins.

Our ski club keeps a slalom course on Norris, I would love to meet some PN members there for some skiing. Let me know if you are interested.

Thanks for your help...this is great stuff.

Any places that are a must see or do? Any places to avoid? How is the water traffic?

I would definately be interested in the slalom course NHC2oSki...let me know and we can hook up for a few sets.

Great pics. We are also considering the switch this year from Dale Hallow to Norris. Cool HB T-Shirts. Did you have them made by a local Columbus, OH company? Where did you rent the HB out of? Oh, by the way, what type of camera did you take the pics with? Great clarity.

I'm not sure where we had the shirts done. Someone else on our crew takes care of those and I don't know if they're completed locally or not. We've rented our houseboat out of Pennington 33 Bridge Marina the last three years and have received excellent service there.

I think those pix are a smattering from at least three different cameras, but a chunk of them are with a Canon Powershot SD450. Pretty nice for a compact, but I haven't completely figured out how to take good action shots with it.

OK...bottom line! What's the best dock to rent a houseboat out of? We will be coming down I-75 from the North.

                      Thanks!

I'm all set - sent my deposit in yesterday!

I'm looking forward to having a cabin on the water instead of the 8 mile drive I had to take everyday at Dale Hollow.
