Do any one know what the observer laws are in Oregon. I have looked at the online training course for the boating license and it only says that you need one. IS there a certain age required?

I don't see an age restriction listed in the material I found online either. Guess that would come down to the officer's interpretation on that particular day.Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward. I believe thay have to be 13 or older. However, if you are practicing for a competition, in a course, and maintain contact with the boat, by the handle, you do not have to have an observer. Contact the State marine board for clarification, and it would be handy to have the exact printed law, with reference number, to show the marine officer that stops you.

I know this doesn't apply directly to Oregon, but there is a similar law in Wisconisn. You must have an observer but there is no specific age limit set. The regs. read that the person(observer) must be capable/competent to convey necessary info. to the driver, about the condition of the skier. That is obviously open to some interpretation. I have had my 5 year old daughter be a spotter.
