No, I don't ride with brace on either knee. Neither of my surgeons nor my rehab folks recommended one for prevention but they strongly recommended leg strengthening as the best prevention. I wore one for about a month after my first replacement, but I think it provided me more psychological support than knee support. I didn't use a brace at all after my most recent surgery.

I'd go with whatever your surgeon and PT specialist recommends. Good luck with your spring riding!!

      auskier,
You probably don't want to hear this, but I've had two rotator cuff surgeries this winter and things still aren't 100% :x . I've been in P.T. since my first surgery in Sept. My second surgery was in Jan. to "clean up" some scar tissue from the first. I just hope I can ski this summer!!! I haven't given up and I'm still working on getting better!! (By the way, this was a Barefoot injury) Sorry to break in on the wake board injury postings, you guys Yellow_Flash_Colorz:

yeah, so i've got one to add to the list.... the sunday before last i'm finishing up a great session with some friends and decide to end it with a raley.... as i was pullin back down, the rope (an accurate a-line) snapped and i yanked the handle right into my trachea. i shattered one of the little bones that support it which left me with major breathing problems. we met the paramedics at the dock, and i was wheeled away to the ER by ambulance. they say that by the time i got to the ER i was at about 20% O2 (near brain damage) fortunately with the prayers and support of family and friends i came out of surgery fine, and will spend the next month or so recovering with a tracheotomy. i should be talking again in about 2 months.... anyway, just thought that would make a decent addition to this list lol

Last summer July 06'. I tore my PCL liagament, fratured my tibia plateau, and busted a tendon capsular(sp). I was just getting warmed up on my first ride of the day, doing a FS indy half-cab.... Landed it fine, but there were rollers in the flats which I think contributed to my fall... Also, I was trying not to fall directly on my right side to avoid my busted ear drum... Ended up hyperextending my left knee and slamming femur into tibia tearing PCL. This summer I'll be wakesurfing more and learning to wakeboard with a Don Joy Legend brace.

i hear ya on the wakesurfing!
never thought i'd stay off the wakeboard long enough to get any good at it, but looks like that'll be all i do for about a year. might give the wakeskate a shot later on.........

                          1998 - cracked right ankle
1998 & 1999 - bad sprains to the right knee... which led me to buy a knee brace. So... the first time out with the brace, I'm still boarding a bit timidly - so I tell myself, "you've got a brace - you're ok - just go for it". I throw a back roll which inadvertently turns into a roll-to-revert... I come down and my LEFT knee flexes inward... sheared my tibula plateau. Surgery, a plate and nine screws, 6 months of physio.

Enjoy boarding while you're young. Somewhere in your mid-twenties, the bones and joints get a little less forgiving.

I am 37 years old and my mother forbids me from doing inverts :-)
