Still chasing the big family boat with the perfect wake for boarding and slalom. The MC X30 says it has a buttery wake for slalom at 31 and above. Has anyone slalomed this butter?

RE: x30 slalom
Find a V-drive with a "butter" wake is like finding waterfront property in the desert...
I slalom behind the 211 and it's far from butter but it's better than most V-drives. The 216 is the best family slalom boat IMO. I have also skied behind a Malibu I-ride, it's about the same as my 211, slightly smaller but harder wake.
Slalom skiers are spoiled these days... I learned to ski the course in the early 70's.

The MC guy lied. Plus, that boat drives like a pig, IMO. Best thing to do is drive and ski before you buy. It's your money, and a lot of money. They'll have no problem letting you drive and ski it if they really believe what they're saying to you. BKH2001 Super Air

RE: x30 slalom
It probably depends upon what I/O you had, but in general I would say yes, either should be a better slalom boat than the I/O in terms of power out of the hole, wake, and consistent pull. The 211 can produce excellent wakeboard wakes and surf wakes. I would also recommend that you test drive and ski more than one model/brand. If you are comparing to an I/O, the first one you get in will feel like a dream. You may be tempted to buy it because it will seem so much better than what you had. But you still won't know if you're getting the best boat for you unless you drive and ski behind your top two or three choices. BKH2001 Super Air

RE: x30 slalom
Thanks for the input. I plan on test driving several boats as soon as it warms up a bit down here in TX. It looks like the 211, 236, X30 are on the menu so far. Generally, I think a DD will be too crowded for our lake lifestyle. I want the best slalom and board wakes possible in one boat. There will be times when we need to have a lot of people in the boat. A pontoon will also be necessary, but I don't think this is the forum for those. All the I/O boat guys at the boat show were insinuating Nautiques and MC's will beat you to death. Are they that much worse than a 21-23ft Sea Ray or Chapparal?

RE: x30 slalom
IMO - No, the ride in an inboard vs an I/O is not that much difference. (I doubt the I/O salesmen have been in a newer model inboard at all.) A 211, 236, etc - pretty much any inboard boat will ride rougher than most I/O's of equivalent size...how much worse depends on the boat. "Beat you to death" - no. That is a misconception that comes from the earlier model inboards (especially 80's - 90's model MC's). Inboard boats are made for a specific purpose - watersports. I/O's are made for a secific purpose - cruising the lake. You can cruise the lake in an inboard, and you can do watersports behind an I/O - but they won't do it as well as their counterpart. You have to decide what you really want to do on the water.Current: 2017 G23

RE: x30 slalom
In general, the bigger and heavier the boat, and the deeper the V in the hull, the better it will handle rough water. Doesn't matter if it's an I/O or V Drive, or Direct Drive. However, the bigger, heavier, and deeper the V, the worse the slalom wake will be. Every boat's a compromise. There is no perfect boat for every facet of the sport. You just have to find the one that suits your needs best. I have a 210. I think it handles rough water pretty well. However, I've spent some time in the 211, and I think it handles rough water better. I've not been in a 236. I have spent time in an X30. Again, I thought it handled rough water pretty well. However, I thought the X30 steered like a battleship. BKH2001 Super Air

RE: x30 slalom
As far as the MC vdrives, go, I'd be willing to bet that the one with the best slalom wake would be the X1 (formerly X2/205V/XStar). This boat has the same hull as the 96--200 Pro Star 205 direct drive, which while not having the flattest wake of the open bow ski boats of that era, did have a an "old school" wake, i.e., narrow and firm. But with the engine in the back, it'll still be bigger than probably any direct drive you can find.
This is not to say that the CC 211 might not have a better slalom wake. I honestly don't know as I've never tried to ski behind the X1, but did have the pleasure of skiing behind a 211. I'm just saying that from what I've been told by someone who would know, the X1 probably has a better slalom wake than the X30 due to its heritage.1998 Ski Nautique (Red/Silver Cloud), GT-40, Perfect Pass Stargazer 8.0z (Zbox), Acme #422, Tunable Rudder.
