China Syndrome Wakeboarding

So I was watching this movie the other night. Made in 1979.

One of the scenes in the newsroom had TV monitors in the background. Numerous clips showed what I swear was wakeboarding or at least some sort of board with loops for the feet behind a boat.

Is that not a bit early?

Sounds like a Skurfer... The era sounds a little early though.

According to "The History of Wakeboarding" and from what I remember reading in other sources, 1985 was the beginning of wakeboarding.

I've seen and heard of people standing on wooden planks, but the plank itself was secured to the boat.

Interesting sighting though.
