Time for Spring Cleaning...Bare Naked Nautique

I am about 3/4 of the way through tearing the boat apart for cleaning. From the looks of it, the original owner had never cleaned the boat like this. Being anal like I am, I have taken off all hardware so that I can thoroughly clean everywhere. I will probably take this time to wetsand with 1000,1500, and then 2000 for all surfaces even under places where the cushions are.

I have a few questions for you guys to help me with.

First here are some pics of the bare naked '03 sante.....

Now for the Questions:

1) What do you guys think about me sending these pieces off to my platers to get chromed plated?




2) Anyone know the part number, cost, and where I can get a new set of these covers (the ones that cover the lifting eyes)?




3) One of the grab handles have a bolt that is screwed. Towards the end of the threads the bolt and nut started to seize. Luckly I was able to get it all the way off. Anyone know part number, cost, and where to get a new one. I think that I might be able to cut off the messed up threads and then run a die back down it to fix it.



4) Anyone know a good location and replacement brand for the ballast system lines? The ones that were hooked up to the rear tanks were connected **** near permanent from age. I even had to slice down about an inch on a few to get them undone.

Flexible electrical conduit makes decent ballast system lines (the plastic stuff without any metal in it), you can also do a search for tanks & more e-bay store, the spiral drain hose

New Questions:

5) Has anyone replaced the horrible black rubber antislip foot bad on the top of the gunnels? I was thinking about picking up the ones that come on the new ones. They look much better and seem like they might not track black crap all over the place. Price?

6) I have a spot about 3" in diameter where it looks like the previous owner rubbed up against a dock and it gouged out the gelcoat. It's not too deep but pretty bad looking. I've messed around with gelcoat coat on my last boat, so am pretty familiar in the process of getting it to look like new again. Do you guys think that the "white" gelcoat from my local marine supply house will be the same "white" as CC uses? I really hate to have to mix any color into it as that is a pain.

There is another thread on PN somewhere that lists the companies that sell Silver Cloud gelcoat. Do a search using that term and I'm sure you'll find the thread.

The gelcoat is silvercloud? I thought it was white.

Silver Cloud is the Correct Craft white.

Holy Crap! I'm pretty anal when it comes to cleaning my boat, but wow i can definitely say ive never seen someone clean their boat that thoroughly, looks like youre about to start a resto. haha, nice job though, i do actuallt do the samne thing with my car once a year on top of its regular cleanings, taking the front seats out, center console & cleaning EVERYWHERE... noone else will notice that rides in you boat but you, but ehh that's all that matters anyways right?

I don't see the point in cleaning it that well. I mean, you will have nasty stuff behind the combing pads the first time it hits the water. When I do a thourough cleaning, I will remove all the seats and seat bases, but the combing pads stay as well as the observer's seat. Anything really bolted on, will just stay in place.

The hose for the ballast system can be obtained at the local home depot or lowes. It is in the plumbing section, and is clear tubing used for washing machines and outdoor spas. It will be kinda pricey to replace all of it though.

Yeah I know it is overkill, but this is probably the first time it has ever been cleaned like this. Last summer when we got the boat, we went right into riding. This is the first spring owning this boat and I wanted to know for the years to come that I atleast have a clean boat to start with. Also, it gives me a chance to clean up the wiring that was done this summer. I had to quickly do some stereo upgrades in prep for the 4th and didn't get a chance to do them the way I would have wanted if I wasn't up against a time crunch.

I also plan on doing some LED's throughout and want easy access to all the wiring areas.

Now if it just quit raining down here so I can start to clean. I only have the front of the boat to take apart at this point. I'm gonna pull the tower and probably the windshield too.


Ag4ever....you gotta appreciate getting a boat clean for all the youngins here in CS.
