      RE: Polish

I'm finished.....with disassembly that is. This little cleaning project is quickly approaching to be borderline obsessive. Maybe I have OCD and don't even know it. I have taken every little piece off the top of the hull. Tomorrow I will start to do a quick cleaning and then on to wetsanding, buffing, and polishing. There must be something with the hardware that CC uses. It sure likes to seize and then twist in half. For the record, I now have ruined 3 grabhandles because of this problem. A few of the tower bolts have met the same demise. Needless to say, I will be visiting mcmastercarr and ordering alot of replacement SS hardware to replace the stuff that they use.

      Shopping list thus far:

      1X - Rear Grab handle
      2X - Front Grab handles
2X - Front cupholder housings(not the actual cup holder). Mine have started to crack in a few places. Prices/partnumbers anyone?
Sealant - On some of the stuff there is some marine sealant that was used. 3M 5200 maybe? Any ideas?
Lost of other stuff that wasn't oem.

I have a ski boat now.

I knew my boat would fit in my garage!

I'm doing the same thing right now. This weekend I'm stripping the engine down to re-paint, replacing all of the hoses, fixing a couple small oil leaks, putting new carpet down (floor only) and a number of other things. That's why my 31 year old boat is still on the water going strong. It's not obsessive. You're doing the right thing.

You might be able to get the same hardware at your local Fastenal Hardware (Industrial supplier).

This could be worked into a side story on an episode of Monk.

My biggest question is "WHY NOW?????" It's almost April and now is the time of year when I am putting my boat together, not tearing it apart. I live in Indiana and it's 40 degrees here, but I already brought my boat home, hooked up all the hoses and it's ready to go the first time its warm enough. Good luck getting all of that back together

Yeah, I know I started a little late. Just haven't had the time nor the drive because it has been cold down here. I've lived in Texas all my life and anything below 50 is freezing.

In the process of wetsanding. Oh how I loathe wet sanding...I forgot how much of a pain in the *** it is. I'm pretty much done going over it with 1000 and getting all the small scratches out with a bit of 600 (this is for the top deck only). I have decided to work below the rubrail after it is all put back together.

I'll have mine running this weekend. It'll be ready to be in the water as soon as the ice breaks open far enough to get the boat in (~2 weeks).....no matter what the ambient temperature is.

I just got my replacement stern light this week, so I should be making a trip to Somerville soon. I was hoping this weekend, but my schedule looks pretty full. Besides, the wind probably has that lake all torn up anyways. 15+ MPH wind is not nice to Somerville. One day I might drag it to Lake Bryan.

Lake Bryan is where we go. We used to hit up somerville in college. Bryan is just so much closer and like butter during the week.

Replacement stern light? I think I took one of those off. You need to take out the interior, floor and combing pads to get to it!

Nah, on mine it can be slid in next to the starboard ballast tank without removal of the tank even.

I have the electric version that extends when you turn the light on like an electric car antenna. it got stuck in the up position when I was winterizing the boat. CC just got the replacement to my dealer earlier this month, good thing I was not in a hurry to get it.

                            Installation should be fairly easy.

how'd you get your throttle handle off. I have 2 loose bolts that hold the dash (where you put your right arm when throttling) and get get them tight. So i need to pull that panel off to see how to tighten them.

Aside from this being a pretty interesting post... why would anyone do this on a 2003 SAN? It goes beyond anal retentive preventative territory right into creating work for onesself.

I can understand if the boat is 10-20 years old - but seriously on a 100% fiberglass boat that is relatively new, what is the point?

Aside from creating a good baseline from which to make a crazy custom ballast projet - or if the boat was treated horribly by its prior owner I can't see how this is a necessary project. Not that I don't commend you...

I just dont understand it. I respect the effort - the dizzyingly huge effort. I'd be petrified of things not coming back together properly, bolts seizing and so on. Wow.

That said, I took apart a Land Rover Defender 90 a few years ago and turned it into a soft top/hard top conversion vehicle for no real good reason - making it the only of its kind in the US so I probably shouldn't say anything
