    Dear Erik,
    Respectfully, I disagree.
I strongly recommend you to do the same that bmh2208 is doing.
Just because if you say that you would be hesitant to buy a boat that had been assembled by CORRECT CRAFT... then disassembled and then reassembled by someone not named Correct Craft.
If you say that, I presume you never seen the "backside" of a correct craft. There are a lot of things that need a little hand to get the perfection we can see in the rest of the boat.
    I have a 2003 210 SANTE and I’m doing the same.
It's a good way to know your boat better and I’m sure that if you do the same you will find many answers to many questions and you will feel more secure if some trouble appears.
Start by deep cleaning your bilge and you will quickly understand what I’m saying.
    Nice job bmh2208!

Speck...yeah it is in Texas. We picked it up at Sail and Ski in Austin. Currently it resides in College Station. One of the guys that owns it with me lives here and the other lives in Houston.

I would bet that is a Magnum built trailer. Mine sits on a Magnum trailer, and it is rock solid. I do think there are better trailer that hold the boat better, but as far as strength goes, you won't find a trailer that is stronger.

Magnum has a shop in Austin and one in San Antonio.

Fonseca, respectfully I stand by my comments and disagree that we all run out and do what bmh2208 is doing. Unless, as I mentioned, the boat has seen 15 years or so of rain, debris and moderate to harsh use. But - wow we're all so mature and cool here. It is refreshing. Group hug.

Now bmh2208, I am really sorry if my comments came off as harsh. I truly am careful on here to not come off as snarky or snotty on this site in particular - and if my comments insulted you I apologize.

My sites, and my profile in the wakeboarding public is sort of as a consumer and owner advocate. I haven't made much more money than what it takes to host and maintain The2001.com and The Wakeboard Report. I enjoy an informal sponsorship from Boardstop for my work with Wakeboarder.com, but aside from that, I am in it for consumers exclusively. I am always, overall, looking out for the guy who doesn't have deep pockets or extreme technical expertise because I think that audience is underrepresented in our sport. Sorry for the aside.

Your project, are at the upper-end of what I would expect a normal owner to be capable of doing successfully. For years I have thought about removing the tower to have it powder coated white, but I am afraid to mess with what I know to be fantastic craftsmanship and assembly - and I know I would find a way to screw it up. And I am modestly capable with projects. So my comments are meant to dissuade the impressionable reader who thinks that this is a run-of-the-mill project that should be undertaken on a 4 year old boat. A boat that is considered to be one of the best model years, of one of the best boats in the history of the sport. It simply isn't a project that is necessary for most people, and that is all I was trying to get across.

I commend you though. Your boat is gorgeous as I previously mentioned. I am actually considering covering this project on The Wakeboard Report but I will do so very positively if I post what I've written so far on your project. I have backlog of stories so I may not get to it. But I did want to make sure we were "cool".

Erik, no harm no foul. You in no way insulted me. I appreciate opinions from all sides. I think your position is great considering the effect that it has. I agree, this undertaking is definitely not for the faint at heart and do not encourage or promote someone else doing this unless they are ready willing and capable. Your position will hopefully dissuade those unable to do so and prevent destruction of what I also agree to be the best year of the 210. Go for the tower man! That was probably the easiest thing to do. I am considering stripping of the paint and having it powdercoated as well, but might wait as it is very easy to remove and I can do it at a later date. I'm itching to get on the water with all this almost 90 degree weather down here. My tower must of been one of the ones that were painted, as it has started to chip in places. I have a fabricator here locally that used to powder for Tige, so I think he will do a good job.

I appreciate all of you guys commendations. In the end I will have something that is better than when I bought it...and that is what matters. I guess it runs in my blood. All of my life my grandfather would buy yachts, fix them up and then sell them. This sort of action has been instilled in my brain since birth.

I'm all for you doing a story, just wait till I'm done.

            Cheers!

Any thoughts on the 5200 sealant? My Zaino will be here tomorrow and will be ready to reassemble some of the components in a few days.

The 5200 will work fine. Its meant to be used for thru hull fittings so it may be overkill on handles. It also "glues" things together. The 4200 has less glue factor. I think they are both available cheap at Home Depot.

Thanks...that what I figured. When I unbolted the grab handles they were stuck pretty good, so they maybe used 5200. BTW, Academy had a great selection of 3M products (sealants and waxes).

I'm not sure. If I send it down to my platers in Houston and prep the material, it'll probably only cost at most $50.

I used the 3M 4000 stuff for gas filler neck, through hulls (both above and below waterline), cup holders etc..it stays flexible, and won't "set" like an epoxy...though it does stick whatever you're using it on.
The finished gelcoat looks great! What grit wet paper did you start with?

I might have to go back to academy and get some of the 4000 and try it.

Thanks..it was alot of work. I started with 1000 then 1500, and finally 2000. You could actually go a little bit higher if you wanted. I used 600 in a few places to get a few minor scratches out. You have to be real careful and make sure you don't go too deep and make it uneven.

Fonseca, I agree with your point about knowing your boat better when you tear things apart.

I'm very agressive when it comes to caring for my boat. Then again, when your boat is 31 years old, you have to be that way to keep it looking and running good. http://hydrofoilmaniacs.com/The%20Rig.htm

bmh2208, I like to hear what you're doing to work scratches out, etc. That's all good information and is helpful in my quest to keep my old girl looking good.

I wouldn't be in a big rush to remove my tower feet unless I had too. I installed my tower and and am surely not afraid to do the work but I would minimize how many times I remove the feet. From a maintenance standpoint, I check all the hold-down bolts at least monthly....but leave it at that.

Eric, in regards to it being the best model.......we'll see how good it is in 20 years. That might be the only thing that throws me. Some of the hardware (though I don't have all the fancy stuff) that is being replaced on the new boat.....I've never had to touch on mine.

This is really messing up my argument to my wife about getting a newer boat so that I don't have to work so hard to care for it. Please stop all work like this on new boats.
1976 Ski Nautique.....old but it\'s still going strong

Been a few days since I have been able to work on the boat. They weather has been just crappy. What's up with 30 degree weather in April. Oh well, it makes me not feel so bad that my boat is in pieces right not.

Anyways....I got in a few goodies for the boat. First is the Zaino. This stuff is the bomb. I just thought the reflection was good with what I was using before. I used the ZPC, then Z-3 and then the finishing spray. I have only done the transom so far, but the finish is amazing. I can't wait to get the whole thing done.

I also got the new speaker cans in to replace my "stolen off the side of the road" green PVC made ones. Now I just have to fabricate an adapter plate because the cutout is for a 6.5 and the overall diameter is just at 8".

More to come this weekend as long as the weather holds out.
